  1. I dont see why you would have to be a member here
  2. I'm from the south east if ITV is to be believed, I think the comments are bang on!
  3. Well I think it's great that you have decided to do an organisation for CCers. Post no 4 (Edit, I originally said post 2) proves the need for one. A bunch of other posts also proves the need for it. I think it's a great shame that some long standing members with high post counts have reacted so negatively. I'm not a CCer, hell I dont even have a boat, but I expect to have 1 in 3 weeks (I've been saying that for a week now, grr how dare the crane driver go on holiday at the end of the leisure boating season) But when I do get 1 I will be in a marina with all the facilities. I would love to go CCing, but I cant, I am tied to a particular place. I also cant afford it. I also want access to all facilities, such as my own dedicated electric point, my own dedicated water point, laundrette facilities should my washing machine pack up, toilet & washing facilities should I encounter a problem with those. Secure access so that my boat is secure. But hey thats me. If I won the lottery I would do it like a shot, but I would still keep my (soon to be) fully residential mooring. There's a guy near me, who never moved, he was off the navigation from what I could tell. I couldnt care less about the legality of it, that's up to enforcement to sort out. But if ever there was a problem, he would always be the first out there helping. Unfortunately his boat sank 1 night. Apparently because I (will) have a home mooring, that means I can bridge hop, but the CCer cant. A boat in the way is a boat in the way. I'm not going to get butt hurt because I think someone else is getting away with something, as long as they arent causing a problem for others I couldnt care less, & if I think they are causing a problem I can always report them. I was founding member & vice chairman of a motorbike club for 12 years, we even won a civic award. We even was still allowed to operate when the HA moved into the area & shut all the other bike clubs down. It was great fun, but a lot of hard work. I was relived when it all ended "ooh free time again". So I say good luck with your venture. Ignore the negatives, & embrace the positives. I wonder what label peeps will apply to me when I get my boat, perhaps shiny boater, but I can see the shiny boaters objecting to that. Hell I may tell 'em all I'm a CCer that goes nowhere just for the crack. Once again good luck. If others want an all inclusive organistation then set 1 up. I thought there was 1, the IWA. While I havent looked into it, my early impressions (from when I 1st joined this forum) was that they only liked posh boats. I dont know & I dont care if that is the case or not. I've never even heard of the NABO. I wont be joining, but I'm pretty sure I wont be joining anything else either. So good luck & have a greenie
  4. Do you really need that much telly & does it have to be HD? You can get just freeview over the internet & it costs nothing. http://tvcatchup.com/ Despite it's name it is not a catch up service, it's live TV as if you was plugged into a freeview box. I live in a house, the TV reception is terrible (according to the lay of the land it will be worse at my intended marina). The town is big enough to get it's own transmitter, which drowns out the general transmitter for the wider area. Unfortunately because we are lucky enough to get our own transmitter, most of the freeview channels havent bothered subscribing to our 1 town transmitter, the result is we only get about 8 channels. BBC is supposed to work but it doesnt. But http://tvcatchup.com/ gets all the freeview channels. My 3G phone is quick enough to watch it over the phone signal (H), & luckily I have unlimited data on my phone. I can easily get through 10GB a month (my landline internet I regularly hit over 30GB). The 4G allowances I have seen all seem to be very small & expensive. My 3G internet is about 5000kbps down & 2500 kbps up & is quick enough to watch telly. My landline internet is 10000kbps down & 700 kbps up. (Edit to change speeds, I missed a couple of zeroes of the end ^^) I intend to switch to Three when my contract is up in order that I can tether or hotspot (my computer to my phone), which currently isnt allowed. Good luck on being moored 45 months a year, I thought there was only 12 months in a year!
  5. What smileypete said. IMO you need it appropriate size (in terms of heat) for the room. Too small obviously it wont heat it, but too big you have to have the termostat so low that although it turns itself off, its belting out heat far too quickly for the small room, then it stays off until the temp gets down to the oh so low thermostat setting that it gets cold again, before it turns on back on & kicks out too much heat for the small room because although the thermostat reacts it carries on belting out heat. Otherwise they are great
  6. LMAO heavy duty special "flexible" silicon cast iron WTF, so if you whack me round the head with it, it'll just bend around & not do any damage!!!
  7. Interesting thread, I would like to know how it works out. The boat I'm buying has a pump out. After the surveyor had been I noticed it now stinks, but only in the bathroom. & it has that little bit of water in the pan mentioned above (I was worried about this before I saw that) Anyway I can ask the current owner tomorrow as he has kindly offered to go through everything on the boat, even to the point of offering to pick me up from my house too (it's quite a walk from the bus stop to the brokerage, & I hate walking).
  8. This reminds me of an incident I had with the DVLA. They wanted to fine me for not SORNing a motorbike. I had indeed SORNed it. They reckoned I should have chased it up after 2 weeks & get confirmation from them that it had indeed happened (their guidlines), & because I hadnt chased it up that was proof enough for the courts that I hadnt SORNed it. As far as I was concerned all I had to do was post the damn thing to them, (& under some law that also relates to court summons) that was all I needed to do. It was up to them to prove I hadnt posted it. Anyway while waiting for my turn to go into the magistrates court about it, some chap came along wanting to know how I was going to plead. They claimed to be the Clerk to the Justices & that I had to tell them. I knew it was a lie because my uncle was the Clerk to the Justices, & I refused. In court I pleaded not guilty, the 'chap' was in fact the DVLAs solicitor. They poo-pooed my claim the the DVLA sloicitor was going around claiming to be the Clerk to the Justices. I also managed to pee off the magistrate because I wanted it to go to a higher court. Something along the lines of (me) "with all due respect this isnt about whether I SORNed my bike or not, it is about the principle in law & the law doesnt say I should chase it up, & while you maybe a good law abiding person I want it to go to a proper court & let them decide if the law has been followed or not, being well aware that if I lose the fine will be a lot higher than anything you can impose" Well I thought the magistrate was going to blow his top, but at that point the DVLA solicitor withdrew their claim, I had won. To this day tho I hope I never end up in front of that magistrate for anything!
  9. I remember once holding a door open on my way into the local shopping centre for a 'lady' with a pram. I got such a mouthful of 4 letter abuse about sexism & everything & anything else that I did just that
  10. Sorry to bump an old thread, but. My 1st ever boat (possibly in 3 weeks time fingers crossed) has a Rosie & Jim dolls in the window, pump out toilet, & electric bow thrusters. It will also end up with a collection of logs on the roof (my sister has a cellar full) & now I know what accessory I absolutely have to get before we move on to it, & that is a pirate flag, just gotta be done. My boat, my rulez Edit for spelling & change the smiley to a pirate smiley
  11. This reminds me of 1 time we got to the Rock n Blues. Some bloke (who we didnt know) was trying to sell his bike on the gate to get the money to get in. Turned out he had lost his job, his wife had kicked him out, everything else had gone wrong, & all he wanted was to do the rally. There was enough of us, so we had a whip round & got him his ticket, we kept him in beers all weekend, & he got to keep his bike. Some time later, several rallies later, we were all at a different rally when we heard "Oh my god, it's you guys". It was the same bloke. But this time he had landed his dream job, apparently had a very nice new girlfriend etc things couldnt have been going better if you had tried. He kept all of us in beer that weekend.
  12. Stuff 'em. It's a boat, it should be boating not tied up at the side of the damn canal. Go as fast as you want to, put a bigger engine in, go faster, those boats shouldnt be moored because I'm sure they should all be CCing & therefore have no right to be moored, instead of CCing they are permanently mooring so go as fast as you possibly can. I may change my mind about this when I actually get a boat.
  13. It would chuck out too much heat for a room that small
  14. No bed bugs here. Rabbits, bats, squirrels, & toads, but no bed bugs! & in the winter field mice, but they bugger off again once it warms up.
  15. Nowt wrong with piercings & tatts... all I need now is an axe & a boat
  16. Sorry I cant work it out either. Mine will be 58 ft. Annual fee is £825. 50% discount is £413. They said they will charge me £69 per month for each of Oct Nov Dec, then I get my Gold (Im ignoring pennies & rounding up)
  17. This thread has me worried. I'm sure there will be nothing wrong with my boat. 1st half of the survey is being done tomorrow. The crane driver is on holiday so it cant be done completely. The only way you can look at it is you saved yourself £15k (or whatever was the amount) you didnt lose £1k. What if you had been on it asleep, perhaps passed out having been celebrating getting your new boat. Deadeded!
  18. I have an Indesit (house) washing machine, it was 2nd hand when I got it. It's over 9 years old now. The heating element has never worked, & it only runs from a cold feed (hot & cold feed plumbed into 1 cold pipe). I fill it up with 5 kettles of hot water (not boiling but too hot to put your hands in) when I want to do a hot wash (whites), & less if I'm doing coloureds. I dont know how much electric it uses, but I've never had a problem, no smells, no mould. Edit, dont forget most detergents now are happy for low temp 30°C
  19. Not in relation to a boat. But I have a 3KW Delonghi heater oil filled rad. It has 24 hour timer, & thermostat. It easily heats my 20ft x 20ft room (on land) in a dodgy old half derelict mansion. It can get too warm for the room if I turn it right up. I have also lent it to a girl in the past who used it to heat a whole 2 bed house with open plan living room & kitchen & stairs & leaving the bedroom doors open (just to take the chill off) when her heating packed up. I have used the same heater in a 12 ft x 8ft room & it's far too much for such a small space. I will be taking it with me when I get my boat. I also have a 2KW 1 as well which isnt quite enough to heat my bedroom which is also 20ft x 20ft That's based on it being below freezing outside all day & all night Edit to say, I have had a few different makes over the years, but Delonghi is by far the best I have tried. I have also used a few of these heaters (1KW) in a big Victorian terraced house when I was running a B&B when the heating packed up, 1 in each room.
  20. Following this thread. I never had a boat, but hoping mine will be ready in about 2 weeks, if I can survive the winter the summer should be easy.
