  1. The same Crt that want you to do everything online these days, my friend wanted a winter mooring last year but is not PC literate so called them as he had done for many years and was told it has to be done online
  2. I would recommend cross pinning your mooring spikes if you do end up on the waitrose pound, only kids messing about but annoying in the middle of the night none the less
  3. I like your thinking, is it possible to do that
  4. leg dipped a couple of times but did trip over the steps under Cowroast bridge one November evening, bit scary as it was late at night and I was soo cold I had problems getting back out as it is quite deep there I had to go in once, was iced in/moored at Bulbourne and the cat walked out onto the ice. We heard him crying and went out to look. he was over half way to the other side and had gone through the ice, everytime he tried to get back up the ice broke under him So while the good lady held a torch as it was pitch black night I climbed in, the ice wasn't think enough to hold me and had to swim out to him breaking the ice thinking all the time please hold on as if you go under I wont be able to find you. got to him and rolled onto my back to swim back, he deceided that putting his claws though my ears was a good way to hold on Got back to the bank and gave the cat to the missus to take in, then had to climb up using my front rope to get out Me and him spent the rest of the night in front of the fire and if the canal freezes he is grounded these days Should there be a "Dippers Club"? club tie with a tie pin depicting the depth you went in and if fully submerged you get a bow tie
  5. I have always wondered about running a bath boat it is the one thing that I miss being on the boat, yes you could have one but the ones I have seen have been hip baths and my mate who fitted a full size one told me he only has 2" of water in it or he's running to the water point every week Just thinking like the old wild west days, charge for time in the bath, top ups of hot water, sell home made soaps etc could do a beard shaving/trimming service Would need some big old water tanks though:D
  6. and here come the assumptions based on an ad they are the lovely couple moored in front of us who work hard to keep their boat and have recently been able to find a mooring to get their kids into a lovely little school, they were thrilled to have been chosen and that they thought they could put over a nice view of family life on the cut so a good little film to be used as an ad which shows the joy of the canals and the people who inhabit it becomes the start of erroneous claims of continuous moorers, people who don't care about their boat and how they prefer to spend their money on technology than the upkeep of their boat, which you could not be more wrong about The internet has made the world a smaller place and some people should really think about that, people do have feeling you know and how would you feel This is not the first time people on her have been rude about boaters I know, I have always tried to rise above it but this is a step too far Shame on you
  7. A question I have always wanted to ask was about the increase in licence fees I work in an area issuing licenses for a monopoly organisation (we have no competitors and no one else can sell our rights) and if we increase our fees by more than inflation we have to prove the additional worth of the licence, and have been to tribunals before on this matter when there was talk of an increase of 3% over inflation and we lost As Crt are imho also a monopoly would they not be bound by the same rules? kind regards
  8. apparently its my mates boat pic taken near ivenhoe
  9. We have 5 guinea pigs (2 big cages for males and females separate) and 3 cats on our widebeam and an collapsable run which we put up outside if the weathers nice Used to have a ferret on board when we had the narrow boat, as we used the rear as the main entrance I built cages to the shape of the front cratch which was covered For exercise he was allowed to run around the boat at certain times but make sure you have no holes etc as they will go and hid in them We had a leash for him and used to take him for walks on the towpath which did used to draw some interesting looks from people With ferrets you really should have 2 but our one didn't seem to bother when his partner died RIP Stupid the ferret, greatly missed
  10. i use jems boatyard in bulbourne/marsworth He was cheaper doing all the work than it was for just the lift out/back and pressure wash at another I visited
  11. I thought that you paid in arrears for your licence if paying by DD (eg get licence for 2014 in jan 14 pay over the rest of 2014) so as far as I can work out you would need to be paying the DD monthly to CRT and trying to save at the same time your plan would work if you were paying in advance but not in arrears unless I have missed something
  12. wilstone does still have a shop, the half moon has changed hands and seems to be very popular
  13. Wendover can be a bit windy and yes you can turn at the end, the old pumping station and the back of haygates mill are on that arm Aylesbury is at least now open
  14. I don't feel that it makes any difference if he had a boat to moor or not, he saw some people fishing in an area that is well known for no fishing and asked them to stop and move above the lock where there is no fishing restriction He was asking them as a responsible member of society who happens to love the canals and fish, if you know marsworth you would know that the fish are very large and tame but over the last year we estimate that about 50% of the stocks have been taken which has upset not only the boaters but the local community who go there to feed the fish Whilst I cannot say I was there at the actual event I did meet him before and after and even while recounting what had happened he still was in no way aggressive in his manner just upset about the fishing problem I have asked people not to fish in the area myself and the response most times is to "f off" the local fishing balif refuses to come and attend when he is called for people fishing in the area and advises people to just call the police and tbh even if he shouted at the top of his voice I don't think that this would justify violence any other points you would like addressing or does the prosecution rest
  15. Well the gentle approach didn't work in marsworth where a guy out walking with his dog and family told 4 guys that they shouldn't be fishing in front of the no fishing sign 3 broken ribs, one broken finger, cuts to his head and an afternoon in a&e Fishermen even called 4 more mates on their phone to come and help
  16. we noticed that when we had to get an emergency winter mooring for a friend, seems to be their flat fee not a % charge he had no internet access and was told very bluntly by a lady that there was no ability to take a payment over the phone at all even if he had no internet access I called back on his behalf and was told that they could do it by post, but it takes 3 weeks and i quote " most people do not phone up on the day they require a mooring" as it happened my mate is an old boy who had some bad test results from the hospital and was advised not to move the boat for 4 - 6 weeks as he knew this meant an overstay he thought it best to get a one month winter mooring so he wasnt breaking any rules, we told him to call cart but he said that he hoped to be better again soon and wanted to do the right thing. We helped him out on our laptop and were very surprised by the amount, especially when the fee was for 1 month mooring seems strange to me that they can no longer take phone payments, most other organisations do
  17. will you actually be putting anything into the batteries after a couple of hours both by boat mechanics have always advised no more than 2 hours running (just for battery charging) as after this time the alternator really isnt putting that much in, they suggest up to 2 hours then a rest for 2 hours and then run again if required i did tests on mine and after 1.5 hours it was putting across about 2-3 amps which to me wasnt worth it for the diesal izuzu engine with 70 amp alternator Steve
  18. ah im the opposite, regular anglers with occasionals to the red he had it moored for over a year just round from the elsen, but i was lead to believe that he had an arrangement with bw for 1 year which would now be over its had problem with its engine for a while, recon after recon but the bloke told me he had ordered a brand new engine for it as he was sick of recons not working properly certainly was/is a memorable boat, stuck at work at the mo and cant get through to a friend in the area to confirm walked passed it last night, bloody muddy down there
  19. dont think there is any relation i do vaguely know the lad and i think he may be away at the mo he had been spending time doing the interior and was starting to make headway i do hope its not his if he is away which pub? knew willy quite well, heard hes back in the county soon doing a gig in chesham folk club but i dont think mary will be singing
  20. willy, yes it is the same wild willy, hasnt owned that for a while i saw it last night in marsworth youngish lad owned it and was meant to be having a new engine put in it last i heard speaking to someone at the bulbourne yard last night and he had been told to expect a crane there today and he knew it was a widebeam they were meant to be lifting
  21. This is what we hope they may do but it does read like they dont have to At least we have the info for his meeting so he can ask but at least i can prepare him in case they say no Kind regards Steve
  22. Thank for that, i have printed off the document for his meeting Regards Steve
  23. Good morning all, quick qustion to see if anyone knows or if this has happened before before he meets cart my friend paid for a 3 month winter mooring jan to march on cart online moorings in the meantime a mooring became available on a cart mooring which he has now won at auction the mooring is available from the 6th of feb is there anyway he can either claim back the 2 months he will not be using his winter mooring or to transfer the fees paid to his long term mooring account the 2 months left have cost him circa £250 so it is not a small amount of money to lose when he now has to pay the 4% initial fee if anyone has any advise or knows of the rules and could provide any info it would be gratefully received, he has a meeting with cart in a couple of days kind regards Steve
  24. quick question, are cart answerable to any kind of ombudsman?
