  4. That's my point, I don't know if its private or public. If its private, it goes some way to explain why two similar projects were done. If its public, it would be obviously found in a literature search and the next research project can build upon its findings or otherwise. Maybe they'll go in a different direction, or the economics shift, or government incentives are brought in, or new materials become economic etc. One would hope a thorough desk-based phase is undertook to save money. Or maybe they're just getting grant funded because they're successfully competing with other, even worse, ideas. Research scientists have mouths to feed too.
  5. I don't think quite forwards looking research projects need to concern themselves too much with the economics of a later commercialised infrastucture/system. Of course, there may be further research to "cost engineer" the solution (or to rule it out). I don't seem to remember reading above whether this particular boat and its project were a private thing, or whether they were going to make public their findings etc.
  6. Yet they didn't hire you as a consultant/researcher. Strange huh.

  8. Interesting. Assuming you* are actually qualified and experienced enough, and your research methodology was thorough and robust, I suspect a "desktop research project" wouldn't have been so convincing and there would still have been some decision-makers who think that hydrogen is a good idea. This way, there is no doubt left. That is unless, they didn't actually complete the project to their satisfaction, and instead simply ran out of money. *Its easier to write but of course it could also be interpreted in a depersonalised way - a desktop research project could have been undertaken. Probably was beforehand anyway - with a lot of "not sure" stuff in it. I dare say, there is some value left in the boat, which could be re-engined or scrapped.
  9. It's not really a failed project. Its a complete success - the conclusion is, hydrogen-powered canal boats are completely unviable.
  10. Do you not have the white X at the right? I closed them, they never came back. One click each.

  23. What amount are you assuming needs to be found, to maintain the canals? Or, to put it another way, why are you using the £100m guesstimate?
