  1. Not seen it from gt hey wood to penkridge. Am 90%+ I saw it yesterday in the rugely area. I'm a professor of chemistry, so very observant. The boat I saw was in those colours with embossed stern. Of course MCC may well have made several with similar features, but this is the first one in 5 yrs of boating I've noticed, and I'm a proper geek... Will continue to keep my eyes out.
  2. I'm heading from hey wood to atherley.. Likewise. Not many places to moor on the left from fradley to hey wood... Might mean it was on a private mooring? Wish I'd taken a pic:(
  3. Saw a very similar boat yesterday.. Noted the unusual metal stern with imprinted logo, and wondered what it said! I went from Alrewas to Great Haywood yesterday. It was moored on the left, heading north. My guess is hansacre/rugely area. Colour was same on rear, can't vouch for the rest, as it was the rear I stared at.. Saw a very similar boat yesterday.. 4. can be the little blue box thing too - had to replace mine, as the ground wire wasn't making good contact and fried something inside.. everything worked, but it just wouldn't stop sparking, whether the burner was on or not..
  5. yep - will buy a couple of tokens next time, to have a "spare" at all times. Likely the Trent won't be low enough to navigate anyway on Monday judging by the weather forecast. The problem is I live on it during the week - while at work.. Means I don't get the weekends to do such things. Time to buy a self-pumpout kit I think.. As Dobsons the only place I can get it done within a few hours, and everywhere else takes at least a day, or even two (Cant always take the time off work), then a DIY kit probably sensible, if blooming expensive!
  6. So, Dobson's are closed for the whole of next week (and their pump has broke anyway). Just found out Sawley Chandlery are closed all next week too - although the pumpout is DIY, you need to buy a token for it at the Chandlery. Anyone know if there is somewhere else one can buy a pumpout token? Its 10 hours return trip up to Mercia - don't have enough time to do that. Anyone on here know if Shardlow Marina will be open on Monday (assuming Trent level drops a bit)? I only have Monday free this week. Looks like its the portaloo for me until after NY. Before anyone says, yes Cassettes are probably great - but my boat doesn't have one!! I also didn't bank on everything being closed for 10 days...
  7. Meeting with some friends over the Xmas break in or near Leek - any recommended pubs that do decent meals at lunchtime (Black Lion only does baps at lunchtime)..
  8. Just shout if you want to borrow the oil filled radiators.. I'm in Shardlow Tuesdays till Friday's.. Can drop them off on way to or from work (Nottingham univ). Got 2 of em. Both only 500w, but surprisingly capable of heating a boat.
  9. freaky friday at Midland Chandlers this coming Friday.. 15% off online. I can lend you some oil filled radiators and electric fan heaters if you want in the meantime, although I'm not up in the area until Tues morning. (presuming you are on hook-up).
  10. I'm sure the marina where you are at sell a range of stoves, and there will be people there to fit them... Go talk to the chandlers. You might even get a discount if you moor in the marina. I swear by my Squirrel 1410 - smaller than the one you have, but very easy to control. Well suited to boats IMO. Can punt out tons of heat, or keep it ticking over on a light load and give out gentle heat. Cant say I've used any other type.
  11. Skylink bus goes right by it. There is a stop opposite. Just thought they might be able to make right current installation.. Sounds poorly installed, and possibly dangerous from your description
  12. http://www.fireplaceandstoveshop.co.uk
  13. Id put in the morso you have, and feed it with less fuel than it is capable of!! Unless it's just too big to fit the floor space etc! Good fuel stove place in Beeston, near Mecca Bingo. Might be worth asking in there about parts/ repair of current stove.
  14. maybe the stove is too small for the boat? A Morso squirrel 1410 gets my 70 ft boat warmed through - have had as hot as 32 °C in main cabin (not recommended!) Phurnacite puts out more heat than excel, but excel should give out a lot. There fire-bricks in the stove? Does it have a back boiler? I close windows in Winter - should have enough airflow through roof and lower vents to stop most condensation. bit slow on the reply. Sounds potentially dangerous if door doesn't seal IMHO... hope you have a CO alarm!
  15. Boating under the motorway, thinking how lucky you are to be going 4 mph...
  16. Careful of the Nene... Can get strong stream in a matter of hours, and lock landings are small and often very near wiers.. Beautiful tho. Often floods from Billing downwards. Get numbers of local EA folk who are very good.
  17. Very variable. Given up on them now. Tried many variants, but variability between bags is huge in all cases. Quality smokeless coal a winner every time.
  18. Thanks Richard. Currently at Shardlow on Willowbrook moorings, which is as close as I've found without being on a river.. Not being on the boat 3 days a week, and with a pump out bog means I'm reticent to go on a river.. Redhill has those issues, and only 5 mins closer really. I'll stick where I am unless I can get in atBeeston CRT or marina, or castle marina, as I can walk or bike to work from there. Good to know about Sileby tho.. Always liked that stretch of the Soar. If my fees go up much more next year I might consider it :-)
  19. Bog standard Bowman end caps on my MC 42.. Most chandlers sell em.
  20. Ta for the info.. Can I ask why? (As my fridge, and everything else on the boat is switched through a similar panel). I could add an in-line fuse to the fridge if its sensible (pulls approx 4.5A when cooling).
  21. There not one of these somewhere... If not, worth putting one in... switches with circuit breakers (better than fuses) - I'd be surprised if everything was wired direct to the batteries, as I don't think it would have passed a BSS without something like the above.
  22. They are expensive.. Last year it was about £100/month for a winter mooring, and with that permit you could actually move to a new spot if you wanted. - flexible, sensible, and well priced. It was popular. This year, in order to make it less popular, it is double the price (or more), you have the permit for one spot only (though you can opt to buy another one for a different place the next month). - result: there has been only 1 sale in my area out of nearly 1Km of mooring!! (I'm counting Sawley, Cranfleet (why anyone would want a winter mooring here is mad!), Beeston, Nottingham, Long Eaton, Trent Lock). That said, they did ONE quite sensible thing.. they made it available not only to CC'ers, but also to those with a home mooring.. Thus, If I could afford it, I would pay for this winter mooring in Nottingham, as it would allow me to be very close (walking distance) to my work for 4 months. I've tried for 3 years to get a 70ft mooring close to work - there aren't any. Sadly, I cannot justify £840 for 4 months currently, when I'll have also to pay for my home mooring (12 miles away, but the closest 70ft mooring I can find.. don't want to lose it). Now if it was at last years rates, I'd have done it. I still might for a couple of months...... will see how much ££ I have after the December onslaught of RCR, Boat Insurance, CRT Licence.. Note to others - buying a boat on Christmas Eve was a mistake!! Should have waited a few months, as all the renewals come to ruin your every Christmas from then on
  23. Yelvertoft, or Crick Marina (or indeed quite a few others on the way to Braunston).. you won't be short of options. Suggest you ring forward and book in though. Alternative is a mobile mechanic. I've been happy with Chris from Ovation Boat Services from the few bits he's done for me. I'm sure lots of people will have other recommendations more local to the area, though Chris goes all over.
  24. Mike I have a 170W panel, and my usage is pretty much the same as yours. It is fine for all months except Dec and Jan, where I average about 10Ah/day. I would therefore think that about 400-500W of panels would guarantee your minimum amount. Or, as I do, run a genny once a week to top up in those months. My 170W panel is enough to run the fridge on top of lighting, TV, pumps etc from mid March through to mid October. Outside of these times I put a coolbox in the cratch, which works pretty much as well as the fridge. My panel isn't as deep as the bigger 250W panels, so I can still walk past it on the roof - the main reason I didn't go for a bigger panel.
