  1. Thanks very much for the info and link. I am already with EE but have just signed up for this deal which is over twice my current data allowance and £5.76 per month cheaper. Tony
  2. Try a product called "Elbow Grease". It is solvent free and I have found it to be excellent when I cleaned my boat engine. Available at many supermarkets, Amazon etc. Tony

  4. Assuming you haven't used anything other than a biological treatment and it is a dump through type of toilet, it might just need a very thorough pump out and rinse. It is a good idea to put a hockey stick shaped piece of wood down the toilet and agitate the inevitable "poo mountain" that is there whilst running a good flow of rinse water down the bowl. If you can keep the pumpout running at the same time better still. Tony
  5. I would suspect the Buzzard did not want a confrontation and risk getting injured. A seagull is a tough bird. The Buzzard goes after "softer" targets
  6. Me and my wife have recently moved back onto dry land after 14 years of living on board. This wasn't the original plan but my wife's arthritis deteriorated over the past couple of years and she no longer had the ability and confidence to get on and off the boat as easily as she used to. Also we bought a caravan in the Scottish Highlands near the coast a few years ago and loved it there so much that when I recently retired we decided to sell the boat and live in the caravan. That was 10 weeks ago and so far no regrets. It might have been a different decision however, had we not had the caravan to go to. As people have said, it is not always financially possible to go back into bricks and mortar. I can honestly say that living where we do now, it more than makes up for not living on the boat. Although, it is possible that we may look for boat in the future for holidays. Of course, I could always take up 'lumpy water boating' as there is a sailing club not too far from us
  7. Check the earth lead connection on the engine block. Tony

  9. I think both Candy and Zanussi make a 50cm wide compact washing machine but I don't think you will find a washer/drier to that width. For a while we used a stand alone small Creda spin drier (2800rpm) which got our washing almost dry and didn't take much to finally finish off. Would recommend. Tony

  11. Good point. Will be moved to engine room.
  12. It was on the boat when I bought it and was mounted under the front steps by the Squirrel. I never noticed it was automatic. i will leave it where it is and mount a manual one nearby. Thanks for your answers. Tony
  13. Is an automatic fire extinguisher (1kg dry powder) acceptable as part of the BSS? I currently have 2 manual and 1 automatic (which is located at the front by the Squirrel?) Thanks Tony

  16. UPDATE. I wrote to Beko again asking them politely if any of their appliances would be covered and gave them an explanation of how the boat is wired and connected to the shore supply? Below is their response: Dear Mr Miller I am sorry for the delay in replying to you. I have been making further enquiries into the warranty situation and Iam pleased to advise that all appliances other than cookers will be covered on a houseboat as long as there is reasonable access and that the appliance is running from a Mains Power Supply. Kind Regards Carol Alley Customer Service Administrator Customer Service Department BEKO plc. BEKO HOUSE. 1 GREENHILL CRESCENT. WATFORD. HERTS. 17. Thanks for all your replies. Luckily, I don't have a problem with any of my Beko appliances, (and never have in the past), it was only the result of an innocent inquiry that started this off, but at least I know what to do should anything happen. Maybe Trading Standards if all else fails? Tony
  18. No it doesn't and I stated this to them. All it says is must be a residential property and doesn't specifically exclude any sort of boat.
  19. I thought this might be of interest. I recently contacted the Beko Service department to ask a question about my 6 month old tumble drier, (which I had registered with Beko when new to initialise the warranty). When they realised it was installed on a boat, I was told the warranty does not cover "houseboats" and that was that. I contacted them again to ask for a full explanation and below is their reason.. "We have referred your enquiry to our technical department who advise that appliance requires – Connect the product to a grounded outlet, protected by a fuse of suitable capacity as stated in the technical specifications table. Houseboat is not suitable." I always thought my boat was grounded when on the shoreline and the appliance was protected by its own plug fuse plus the RCD on the boat and the shoreline post.. Incidentally, Curry's do honour their own warranty on boats as did Hotpoint when we called them out to some remote spot on the Oxford. So, double check warranty terms when buying white goods for use on a boat. Tony

  22. We are liveaboards and have a 4'6" wide crossbed which is situated just forward of the engine room so the swim is just starting to have an effect on overall interior width of the boat. I am 6' tall and I am just on the comfort limit for sleeping on the shortest side of the bed as my (shorter) wife has secured the other (longer) side because otherwise she would struggle to climb over me to get out in the night! However, unless we are cruising, we leave the bed fully out as we don't need to get into the engine room or through to the stern very often. Tony
  23. Hi Nick Just to let you know that problem sorted. Turns out it was the isolation transformer that had tripped. Many thanks to Keith Meadowcroft for his assistance over the phone. He was spot on as always Never crossed my mind and didn't even know where it was. Have finally tracked it down a few minutes ago and reset it. All ok now but many thanks for your offer of assistance. You are still welcome to call in if you wish and take a look at the boat Many thanks Tony
