  1. We went, we love anything 40's. It was a brilliant weekend - two quid parking and a fiver entry fee. Well worth it, and the weather was the icing on the cake. Lola Lamour was as ever in fine voice. Well worth putting the dates for next year in your diary - probably the first weekend in October again.
  2. Did you manage to the the preparation ok? Was thinking of you.....
  3. Hi Tree, just checked your boat, nothings a roosting, no poops, and all looks well
  4. Oh, I wish I was moored slightly north of Northants, I'd gladly come and help with the preparation. A decent orbital sander, plenty of filler and a lot of elbow grease should have your boat ready for her new coat in no time. Best wishes

  7. Mavis found the Stationmasters erection unimpressive.....
  8. Thanks - we are looking to get AWAY from the boat for a few days - much as we love it, and thought about taking a trip somewhere this weekend. I imagine it will be pretty busy there after the programme, but Wiltshire is lovely, so we may make it our destination and stop for a nice pint. Cheers!
  9. Having watched the programme, I'm interested to know whether the project has turned out to be a success story......

  11. Went to Braunston for a meal last night. The BOATMAN ( part of the Marston chain ) is very spacious, clean, serves real ale - never had a bad pint but sometimes they've only got EPA - and is great for families as there is a nice play area. The food is typical Marstons fayre, but was well cooked. I opted for the Feta Tart and my carnivorous man had the Chicken and Ribs Combo. Both were delicious. Best of all is the Two for One on the main menu, so it's value for money. The moorings are good, and the village of Braunston is lovely to walk around. We also stopped at the ADMIRAL NELSON. It looks quite run down, but there were paint pots dotted around, so it looks promising. Carnivore had a pint of Doombar which went down well. Had a look at the menu which offered the unusual, including Soft Boiled Duck Egg served with buttered Asparagus tips, and it was reasonably priced. We will return at the weekend methinks to sample said menu. Did Hillmorton a few weeks ago, and popped into Badseys. Was too late for a meal, but the atmosphere was very pleasant, the beer good, and the location a little gem. Another favourite for an after work pint is THE WHARF at BUGBROOKE. Good moorings and beer, menu slightly pricey buy very canine friendly.
  12. It was so much better when it was the old type of Labour Exchange! Now that's feeling old....
  13. Hello there, sad situation. Ring 0844 496 8000. Gone are the days when you can walk into a Benefit Office and speak to an adviser. It appears all to be done by telephone. It wont be impossible to claim, but if it's JSA ( Job Seekers Allowance ) you need then you must avail yourself to sign on at a designated office each fortnight. My other half works for DWP and I'll be happy to pick his brains for you. Best wishes in these trying times.
  14. Just wondered if any of the chaps out there have any views on how to deal with the MENopause? The night sweats (sheesh) the overwhelming tirdness frayed temper the complete inability to reason with the person you reside with on a 37 footer when even their breathing is just WRONG!! I would like to think that the answer would be lots of and ..... not finding the deepest part of the cut and throwing menopausee overboard ??
  15. I've looked through other postings on the site to find a good method of finishing the roof with non slip surfacing, but some of the posts are a few years old and I wondered if anything new is now on the market which is better and quicker than a sand mix. Any suggestions please?
  16. Taking advantage of this glorious weather, I decided today to start preparing the exterior of our 37' circa 1985 boat. I've not lived aboard for very long, and am as such, a novice. Having done a cursory examination of the roof, it is evident that the hatch needs replacing asap. The existing one ( or what's left ) is made of wood. I've checked out other boats on the marina and find that 90 percent of the hatches thereon are metal. Questions..... do I stick with tradition and replace like for like or will a metal one be better? Also, will it either have to be custom made?
  17. Me and my er... sizeable partner live quite happily on a 37ft in relative harmony, the only problem being his hatred of throwing ANY^THING away. But, hey, he works, leaving me time to visit the local tip occasionally. If you don't mind clutter or are organised, a person on their own could comfortably manage on something smaller. Good Luck!
  18. The Marina I am situated on is in an area where there is no tv or radio reception, subsequently we have been using bbciplayer which is very expensive. I would like to be able to purchase a system which would enable us to recieve both visual and audio content. Any suggestions please?
  19. Hello, why not try www.blindsmegastore.co.uk I found them on ebay, and they are situated in Northants. I bought my brass cafe rods from there, they also do chrome and are ideal.
  20. Thanks to all who replied. My avatar explains how I felt after trying for so long to get the screws out. I took the door along to the Chandler manager, who took pity on me, drilled out the old screws, replaced the glass and secured with nuts and bolts. In return I shall clean some holiday lets on the marina, and all is well ( and warm ).
  21. Oh thank you! I thought I was going mad. I cannot get the screws out. I've got the necessary equipment to do the job but thought I was doing something wrong ( complete novice..)
  22. Hello..... has anyone had to replace the glass in an old Torgem B Stove? I need some advice please.
