We are based in Gloucester and for a weekend I would go to Sharpness and back. The Tudor arms as already said is good, and there are other pubs if you don't mind a short walk. Sharpness it self is nice, but there is not much there, so take some food and drink etc. Purton is good for a walk past the old hulks. If you go North out of Gloucester it is a river and moorings tend to be at pubs - good - but if it is a busy time may be difficult. Depending on the flow of the river and the tides, it takes about 9 hours for Gloucester to Worcester. If you do go up river, have someone at the front of the boat when you go into the locks to pass the rope through the lock walls cables.
