Stoppage: Culvert 65, 200m downstream of Whaddon Bridge 163 03 May 2012 until further notice Associated Regional Office: Kennet & Avon Waterways Emergency repair works are required at Culvert 65 (Approximately 200m downstream of Bridge 163 Waddon Lane, halfway between Semington Lock 15 and Bradford on Avon Lock 14) to seal a significant leak that has been found in the centre of the canal. This will require a stoppage of the navigation to allow dams to be installed either side of the culvert. Temporary works are being undertaken to reduce the rate of leakage but it is possible that the pound level may reduce; please ensure that boats are tied accordingly to accept these level changes. Once the culvert has been dewatered we will be able to assess the repair options and advise on a timeframe for re-opening the canal. British Waterways apologise for any inconvenience caused. (Enquiries: 01380 722859)

  5. Have heard tales of boats being asked to pay by the meter length to moor at the leisure centre in Bath, two separate parties were given prices of around £35 per night. Any body throw any light on this?

  12. (can all doors and escape routes be unlocked/opened from the inside) Next time you walk past moored boats that are inhabited, note how many rear hatches are padlocked on the out side. With the majority of bedrooms to the rear of side hatches a fire in the kitchen leaves no means of escape.
  13. I have no problem with narrowboats being fitted with bowthrusters, as (a) it makes the owner feel smug and better, and ( it helps create jobs at bowthruster factories, and boatyards that fit and service them. But I do have a problem with them being used. If you know how to drive a narrow boat, you just don't need a bowthruster, except perhaps (and I hate to admit this) on the rare occasion that your bow gets stuck in mud when singlehanding a boat. Does your car have power steering and servo brakes, surely there not needed.

I want that system used by F1 cars, it seems like they can fully charge batteries in a few hundred yards. I supose the alternator is slightly more than 90 ah. What batteries do they use.

  22. If sombody has a mooring in some obscure place that costs very little and then decides to stay in another area basically bridge hopping for a couple of months, then what rules apply? Apologies if this has been disscussed elsewhere.
