  1. Our boat was reballast after we moved all our stuff on board , maybe that's it . Level and ballast correctly ... move on board with possessions and you get a list . Bunny .
  2. Depending on which months you wanted to hire , it might be worth enquiring at abc to see if they would do a deal at a couple of bases. They have boats covering a wide range of the country and may be more accommodating for that amount of time and splitting the time/ boats . Bunny .
  3. Sorry 'give birth' she has a bit of a complication that may result in her having to give birth maybe as much as 4/6 weeks early . Bunny
  4. Keep an eye on the Kennet , can take longer than the Thames to.settle down.and still lively when it does . Took us a momth last spring, even going against red sleeves/boards .Bunny . Uncertain plans this year, daughter has first baby due beginning of May and might have to birth early . Marina hoping for us. Bunny
  5. Happy new year . In bed with a hot milk and brandy and a nasty, horrid cold . Looking forward to quiet canals , leak free gates and no boy racers in 2017 ...... well I can but wish Bunny
  6. A few years ago we had several new gates leaking like that on the k and a, when we asked why , we were told the wood had to expand to fit properly . Bunny .
  7. Give them a call , we found them very helpful last summer when we wanted to travel into Liverpool the following week. All done by telephone and email . Bunny.
  8. If no one in the area replies , suggest you give Kate boats in Warwick a call or Ian at Saltisford they may be able to give you the heads up . Sorry I can't help , we are on land this winter . Bunny
  9. Just be aware the marina charged us £20 a night 2 years ago . That was the normal overnight charge . Bunny
  10. 62ft narrowboat 600 Lts.7 days to 10 days 2 of us . Including a dishwasher, a washing machine and a pump out . Husband and I shower every day . Bunny .
  11. Yes I am concerned. Have had 2 cases about half a mile from where we are living in a house in Surrey. Our rabbit is a house trained house/boat bunny and I had her vaccinated a fortnight ago against this virus, her other meds are up to date. Our last rabbit contracted a variant of myxomatosis( he was up to date with his jabs) just over two years ago and died , we had him for 7 years , dear old soul. He was bitten on the chin by an infected mosquito. Bunny .
  12. May not see as many rabbits about next year. There is another virus killing them within hours of infection VHD2. Wild rabbits have been found dead in fields in Derbyshire. Domestic rabbits owners are finding their pets dying overnight having displayed no symptoms the previous evening, one rescue charity lost 25 in one night There is a vaccine newly arrived in this country , unfortunately this won't help the wild rabbit population . Bunny
  13. Don't know the other moorers but know they are regular winter moorers there. I've just put the fires on timers and cut the time down by 50% .Hoping to get 50% of the cost of the last bill down . As I said we will make other arrangements for next winter . Bunny .
  14. That's why I started the thread , to see what the average was . I won't push any further to see their contact as , the lady doesn't have a very pleasant disposition and I wouldn't put it past her to turn us off incase we messed with her other more regular moorers, not that we have even seen them , but we won't be returning next winter .bunny
  15. I suppose because we have used these small heaters when we lived aboard for the winter I didn't see a problem . If the rate had been what we are used in wouldn't have even queried it . Just came across last year's mooring fees plus electric bill ..... we were there living on board for 2 months (Inc heaters ) and the just topping the battery up total £ 146 . Learnt my lesson for next year ASK WHAT THEY CHARGE. before I book . . Bunny
  16. We are on an on line mooring on a 'farm' only room for half a dozen boats and 5 of them are winter moorers , Inc us . I did tentatively request a copy of their electricity contract , for our accountant, as we can claim a small proportion of bills as office expense as we are self employed . They said that they would give us a receipt for the mooring and the electricity monies., I know it's not what we asked for but I think it's the only thing we are going to get. We popped back last week and put the 2 little heaters on timers to cut the bills down and still keep the frost out . We didn't use any heat last year just ' winterised her ' and the interior took quite a bit of work to get clean and warm again, that's why we wanted to leave some heat on . The heaters are the same ones we usually use when we hook up and live aboard. 2 x 650w tiny little oil ones so we know what we usually pay . Bunny
  17. Agree with all that . We too are regular escapees of the k and a in the spring . If the Thames is running Red , the Kennet and Avon will he more than just a bit interesting . Bunny
  18. Well we decided to stay down south this winter because the mooring is only an hour and a half from our house sit, and we wanted to take the opportunity to strip the boat of clutter , extra clothes ect . Take it all back to the house , leave most of it there then put back what we need for boating. Husband works odd hours , even at the age of 73 , left this morning at 6am back at 3pm gone again by 4pm , not back till midnight plus tonight , will be gone again by 7am tomorrow morning . Last week 3 nights he didn't get in till 2 am , gone again by 9am . It's one reason we have an expenses paid house that and the fact the house needs living , sort of fell into this 'job'. But yes I think next winter further up north looks better. Never really come across this problem before, and we leave Greyfisher in marinas all over the system at various times of the year . We are hoping to have a bit of a cruise in January, even if it's just for 4 days . Might stop him working, if he can tear himself away . . Bunny
  19. Not sure what to do really . It's an on line winter mooring . £240 a month plus electric. Think I will probably get some timers and just use the heaters at night . Have put up the insulation film and drained down the water from the pipes . The solar panel should be putting in a bit , it's lined up to the sun . No fridge left on . The 12 volt freezer is still on as it's got food in it .. She not a very approachable person . .... was warned about the 'attitude' by another boater but that was after we had paid a deposit for the mooring ...... will know next year to check the unit price before booking anywhere . Usually we pay approx £400 for the 5 months electric , that's living aboard including the 2 heaters ect . Bunny . Not sure what to do really . 20. I believe that marinas ect are not supposed to make a profit from supplying electricity to boaters ( I could be wrong) . I would like to just check if I'm being charged roughly the correct amount . I appreciate that each supplier has a different tariff , but working on the premiss that the middleman wants a small a bill as poss for themselves one would assume the prices they pass on would be competitive. We are being charged 25p a unit ( don't know what a unit is but our bill for November in approx £114:. We arn't living on our boat at the moment, have one thermostatic controlled 650w oil heater on for all the month and another 650w the last two weeks . We winterised the old girl last year and it didn't do her any favours . What do you think ? About right or expensive. I know we can't do anything about it except turn them off , just thought I'd see what you thought. Bunny
  21. Rug over the legs solves the problem . In the evening I sit right in front of the door vents . Yep gets really chilly . If too windy I shield it a bit with a piece of hard board just enough to cut the breeze down but leave it 'open' so to speak. Then take the board away at bed time . Bunny
  22. Years ago in the late 70s there was a lightship as a floating restaurant in Bristol . Bunny
  23. Chicken soup works. The hot toddy knocks you out.... well it should do if you get the mix right . Bunny
  24. I use all the old style remedies. Vic , covonia chest medicine (tastes vile so must be good ) take usually 2 bottles to shift a cold . Honey and lemon lozenges. Paracetamol.anti histamine. Hot water bottle , and a very strong hot toddy at bedtime or if really rough breakfast . Best of all home made chicken soup ( always keep chicken stock in the freezer especially for colds ). That's the fastest cure .... it's the enzymes apparently . Bunny
