  1. Largo is at Sawbridgeworth heading slowly down the Stort, then the Lea towards Limehouse, hoping for a weekend passage up the Thames. Anyone know if there is a fuel boat about this end of the system, Lea and Stort? Thanks Nipper
  2. Starry, Have you looked on Ebay?. When my Dahon bike got nicked, I just thought I'd have a look on the site, and low and behold, there it was! I was given it back the next day by a very nice young police lady! So Starry, it's always worth a look on there! Best of luck Nipper
  3. With a cloth? Oh ok, but wont their little boots get stuck in the paint forever? Nipper
  4. I approached the post lady at the little post office in Welford about Poste Restante, her kindly reply was "Oh don't worry about that sir, just put c/o this post office and this address, that will be fine". And it was, my phone arrived within days, having had a new screen fitted! Nipper

Well, If the OP just wants sorting, then he would be hard pressed to beat these for a very good setup. Even the dongle can be put in your pocket and used wherever he wants without the aerial. The aerial just right for a narrow boat and sits quite happily on the roof awaiting connection to your wifi dongly! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131534040228?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT then get one of these http://store.three.co.uk/view/searchSimOnly;jsessionid=B84405E730C961A01F8679626B317800?tariff=3003 or even one of these http://store.three.co.uk/view/searchSimOnly;jsessionid=B84405E730C961A01F8679626B317800?tariff=570 and if you want to, you can get one of these too! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Huawei-E5372-E5377-E5332-E589-ZTE-MF823-Antenna-11dBi-TS9-Aerial-Signal-Booster-/141688838835?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item20fd501ab3 Thats what i use except that i have a contract on my sim card of £15 for 15 gigs. Have fun! Nipper

  8. Hiya! Yes. just connect to the positive and the negative. The blue wire I have not used! The whole toilet works beautifully! Nipper
  9. The Dometic CTS 4110 is very straight forward to fit. But, the fitting of pipework to the unit requires a degree of ingenuity. The toilet comes with a soft rubbery pipe with a double ended connector, and it's this connector that caused me some problems. In the end, I increased the diameter of the connector with amalgamating tape and pushed a piece of Largo's water hose on it and then put two jubilee clips to it. I then pushed the other end of the hose onto a piece of pipework with the aid of some washing up liquid and also fitted two more clips. Conected that up to the main cold water system. Connected up the wiring and pushed the little button on the toilet and hey, it actually worked! Have fun! Nipper Edited because of schooolboy speeling!
  10. yes, that was what i imagined would happen, but the instructions threw me. As it is i think tomorrow will be a very hot day and i have chosen to fit the loo in the smallest area there is! I'll ignore the wire and see what happens after i have fitted the toilet. Thanks for the input Andy Nipper
  11. Over the last month or two Largo has had a bit of a loo problem what with the pump out tank disintegrating and leaving me with 120 odd gallons of poop to get out by hook and by crook! The decision was not to replace the tank, but to to do away with the Macerating toilet and install a Thetford cassette set up! Well, because of the position that the toilet has to be in and that it's in a through fair, the Thetford would stick out quite a bit more, I have decided to go for the Dometic CT4110 cassette loo! I know Mrsmelly wont like it, Sorry Tim, but needs must and I didn't want to spend the next few years banging my knees up against something that could be avoided when walking through the boat one end to the other! However, dispite me thinking that I have the water pipe to hand and the power for the old toilet in just the right place. I was of the opinion that as soon as one pressed the button my own water system would pump the water into the bowl, but,it seems that there is a third wire that needs connecting, and it has somewhat thrown me out a tad, and I would like a helping hand as to where to put it! Am I right in thinking that this lone wire needs to go down to the freshwater waterpump and be connected to the positive side of it? My water pump is only a couple of feet away, so distance would be quite small. I have enclosed a pic of the wiring needed as stated by Dometic. Sorry if this turns out to be a bit big! Nipper
  12. Yes, thats because they are so dam hard to close, and it often takes more than one person to close them, and they leak like a sieve, despite major maintenance two years ago!
  13. I've been painting my sailing boat with Johnstons Storm Shield for about 10 years. Very similar to Weather shield, but better, according to the Which Magazine many years ago. The key is to give it a key!! Light sanding and the paint adheres a lot better. otherwise, it can peel off in sheets, as a boat yard in Dartmouth found out to their embarrassment one year! Nipper

  16. Yes I've been wondering about closing the gates, especially on rivers. Because it's a lovely sight to go around the corner to see the gates open ready for you! All seems right with the world, until, you find that its the other end gates that have been left open! Nipper Edited because school boy errors!
  17. Ah! my mistake! not Victoria park, I meant the park just before old ford lock, the last lock before the Duckets turn. Bonner Hall?? Although there were a couple of free spaces at Victoria Park too! Yes, there would be a lot less boats in Paddington Basin this week because Cart are having to move boats for the Dragon Boat Racing! Nipper
  18. I have tied up many a drifting boat over the years and also adjusted moorings as required, I'm even known to have supplied additional bits of rope to retie the other boat! . It's a done thing for bumpy water boaters to adjust lines for others, but it can be added, that they probably know how to tie a boat up properly anyway! If my boat was adrift or causing a problem, I would hope someone would retie it for me, as i would for them! Nipper
  19. Spent 6 days in Paddington Basin 7 day moorings last week and left on Sunday, leaving the vast majority of boats that were there when we arrived still moored including at least three boats that have been padlocked up and nobody ever onboard. Camden Visitor mooring are full with long term moorers, and by the state of the boats have not moved for months, but there was a couple or three vacant spots for a decent sized boat at Victoria Park. Duckets had spare moorings available near the locks, but the next moorings available on the Lee were near the Beam Engine at Tottenham Hale! Now up the Lee and mooring everywhere, except but near shops and pubs! Nipper

  21. Well, some will know that Largo is on her way to see the Queen and then explore the river Lea and Stort, then back up the Thames and into the river Wey. It's nice to hear that the moorings in London are being sorted out and that the constant Moorers are leaving in their droves because of better Cart policing and in doing so, making mooring easier for the cruising boat. BUT! Anyone who is cruising into London down the GU should be aware that visitor moorings in Berkhamstead and Hemel Hampstead are at a premium, with very few to be found vacant! I don't know about further down the canal into town, but that's what I have found so far! It may be because we are unlucky and getting to them at the wrong time of day, but yesterday trying to moor a 70 ft Narrow boat around 3pm was a tad on the hard side! Rumers are, that the London moorers have just spread out and moor somewhere they can get transport into London, ie Berkhampstead and Hemel! So, if your cruising southwards, you have been warned!
