Do you want to run a waterway?

Looks like an interesting post, in a pleasant part of the country, and a decent salary too.

I was surprised to read that it is owned by, or at least run by, the I.W.A.

I think the salary offered of up to £40k  is very modest  considering the requirements and responsibilities.

Nearly £800 a week pre-tax sounds like a lot of money to me, though of course the "up to" is an elastic term. I suppose housing around there may be fairly expensive though, as there doesn't appear to be accommodation with the job.

The IWA took over responsibility for running the Navigation when the owners went into administration and no other body would take it on

Not a bad salary for a 35 hour week but not a lot given the need to be available all hours, and sounds like a 7 days a week and 'way of life' sort of job to me. No mention of overtime ,which might make it worth doing, but time off in lieu which I would suspect never happens.

Looks like quite  a busy waterway considering its 13 miles and restricted draft and depth

This post gets advertised every 2 years or annually, job satisfaction can't be that good .

There have been three managers in the 14 years the IWA have run the waterway so hardly an annual turnover!
