Bridge 67-68, so top of Adderley locks. The notice says that pollution has spread over 1km, so it sounds like a fuel spill to me.
Janet S
Is it an accidental fuel spill, or some muppet trying to illegally dispose of bio-diesel? We've had several pollution incidents recently on the River Ribble caused by the dumping of this stuff. Janet

Ewart Hodgson
Why would someone want to pour biodiesel away???
Janet S
Bio - diesel can be produced on farms, small haulage yards or backstreet garages. If it goes wrong, rather than pay to have it correctly disposed of, they dump it anywhere out of sight, namely surface water drains which feed into our watercourses. See here for a bit more background information. Janet Edited July 8, 2007 by Janet S
whammy
Thanks Denis, have read the other site, still not any nearer knowing what has happened but with fish dying becuase of low oxygen levels it must have been serious. I am no scientist, does any one know what would be the cause or causes of such low oxygen levels in the water ???
dor
Low oxygen levels are usually indicative of pollution by things like sewage, slurry or silage effluent.
