Problem at Poolstock pound in Wigan

During the summer months CaRT employees were on site every morning to remove the paddocks and refill the pound which empties overnight.

 

It was thought that it was the leaking gates on the bottom lock which was causing this.

 

Over the Christmas period I have walked past the locks every morning at 9.00am and the pound has always been empty.

 

On closer inspection I noticed that the shallow stream of water in the canal bed was not going through the lock gates but was disappearing underground just before the lock gates and that the concrete cill inside the lock was dry.

 

I am not sure if CaRT are aware of this problem and I will be reporting it on Thursday when they return to work.

I came through this afternoon. The pound was quite low but passable.

We came through late afternoon sometime in April last year. It was low then.

 

What I'm saying is, it's a long term issue. But if the above exposed leak is not known to CRT there may be hope.

If I'm not mistaken this was on the winter stoppages but was postponed indefinitely

According to the CaRT website local offices are closed until Thursday.
