Ian on Leo
We cruised across the Ribble Link yesterday. Anyone thinking of doing this might like to look at our blog at http://ianhelencanals.blogspot.co.uk/ We certainly enjoyed it and would recommend others to do this, providing you have a sufficiently beefy engine. Ours is a Beta 43 and we had no problems with engine overheating, though we did have nice hot showers that evening!
Peter-Bullfinch
We have made a number of crossings of the Link. If you take it steady you don't really need a big engine. Our 57 foot narrowboat with its Sabb 22hp engine is absolutely fine. Don't rush. Enjoy the trip.
DHutch
We did it in EmilyAnne, going from Tarleton to Preston, stop the night, and then Preston down to the Link. Return leg being done in one hit. Enjoyed it, good to be out on the open water. Slight issues with coal/fire slowed up to a crawl for the second half we where very late into Preston, however they held the gate and let us in anyway, worst case we had talked with 'Old man Mayor' at Tarleton who suggested there was an area outside Preston where the hovercraft used to tie where we could spend a night on the tide if needed. I dont recall the details of where exactly this was on the harbour wall, but I am sure you could find it out. But yes, great trip. Daniel

TheBiscuits
Anyone tying up at Preston Marina outside the gate must tie up on the South side, on the Bullnose. That is to starboard (right) as you face into the docks. There is a ladder there that lets you out if you miss a tide, but there is an ugly mud bank on the other side. Don't get stuck on it! Stay in touch with Riversway Control/ Preston Marina if not sure, either by phone or VHF.
