pophops
Would it generally be considered safe to turn the water back on in mid-March?
Boat&Bikes
Assuming in England then yes. Ian.
ditchcrawler
Did mine yesterday, it will stay full now until November. (unless I run out)
frangar
If the tank was left with some water in over winter I'd be tempted to run some milton....or thin bleach...through it to sterilise then flush and refill. Cheers Gareth
Col_T
With apologies for barging in on someone else's thread . . . . We drained the water system over winter and are planning to refill over Easter. The intention is to add Milton to sterilize / purify the water, but the question is at what concentration? We have a 150 gallon tank, and I was thinking of using 4 litres of Milton e.g. 30ml to 5 litres of water, which approximates to the dilution for sterilizing baby stuff - is that sufficient? Presumably we should leave the mixed water for about 24 hours, drain and refill - though that does seem a little wasteful of water? Colin T. I add just 1 litre of Miltons to my tank in the springtime, with the tank half-full (I leave it half full over winter rather than empty it, but I do empty all the pipes), and run each cold tap for a couple of minutes. I only leave it for an hour or two, then open the furthest hot tap to drain the tank through the whole system until empty and then re-fill. I've done it that way for 30 years and it seems to work for me without leaving the water tasting of steriliser.
Col_T
Thanks for that, Allan. I guess you mean the hot tap farthest from the calorifier? Even so, your way sounds dead simple so that's what I'll do! Best regards, Colin T.
ditchcrawler
I hate to make these comments but 13 years on this boat and 8 on the last and we have never added anything to the water and never had a tummy problem. Now that could be the kiss of death but I have said it now.
