De-winterising

With apologies for barging in on someone else's thread . . . .

We drained the water system over winter and are planning to refill over Easter. The intention is to add Milton to sterilize / purify the water, but the question is at what concentration? We have a 150 gallon tank, and I was thinking of using 4 litres of Milton e.g. 30ml to 5 litres of water, which approximates to the dilution for sterilizing baby stuff - is that sufficient?

Presumably we should leave the mixed water for about 24 hours, drain and refill - though that does seem a little wasteful of water?

I add just 1 litre of Miltons to my tank in the springtime, with the tank half-full (I leave it half full over winter rather than empty it, but I do empty all the pipes), and run each cold tap for a couple of minutes. I only leave it for an hour or two, then open the furthest hot tap to drain the tank through the whole system until empty and then re-fill. I've done it that way for 30 years and it seems to work for me without leaving the water tasting of steriliser.
