B & Q black gloss paint for hull

I remember, some time ago, someone (Laurie Booth?) said B & Q paint was good for painting the hull below the water line. I wonder if it's still doing its job.

Also I wonder if their Quick drying exterior gloss paint is the one mentioned. It's the only B & Q paint I can find.

I used it for painting above the waterline thinking it would always look nice and black and shiny. Bad idea, it scrapes off and looks really tatty, painted over it with (I think) some sort of bitumen paint from Wickes. Seems ok. Two pack Sigma underwater which seems good.

With my yoghurt pot I have used, originally Do it All's and latterly Wickes own brand, exterior gloss to paint above the waterline and a couple of times as an undercoat for antifoul below. I have found it quite satisfactory. (and cheap).

As she is only 24'6" painting her is a quick job and apart from the last couple of years (while she and I have both been laid up), it is done every year.

I have never had any problem with peeling paint and although it scrapes fairly easily so does the gel coat beneath and as they are both similar colours it is not too bad.

Because of the small size I can (and have) re-painted in a decent warm weekend........pull out on Friday afternoon and pressure wash. Fill prepare, sand down and mask up Saturday. Roller on two coats above waterline and one coat below as undercoat and antifoul. Monday morning mask up and paint in waterline and stick on name decals. Re-launch Monday lunch time.

With a larger boat I would probably be less keen using cheap materials due to the greater difficulty in drydocking and probable longer spaces between .

My Humber barge for instance has 2 pack (Interzone 954) below and for a short distance above the waterline.
