can anyone recommend a good mechanic?

i would like to find a reputable mechanic to service a bmc narrow boat engine, i dont want to just go to the first marina and get conned into a load of overpriced work that i dont need anyway, and would like to find someone trustworthy, the boat is moored about 13 miles outside manchester, in derbyshire.

I'm not from that area so can't suggest a mechanic, but have you thought about doing it yourself? A service on a BMC engine is very straightforward, requiring only a spanner set and a small screwdriver or dental pick and can be done in a couple of hours.
