Timleech
Now, I'll bet you you follow the Perkins line, it begins in the 1930s Richard Well, the P3, which was the design they modified to fit Ford's requirements, started in 1953, though the P4 goes back to 1937. Athy
The plot thickens! Good info - so the BD3's lineage does indeed go back to the 1930s.
Proper Job
I thought it was a JD3? and based on the 3 cylinder John Deere engine?
bizzard
The plot thickens! Good info - so the BD3's lineage does indeed go back to the 1930s. Perhaps the Fiord tractor was intended for the Norwegian market, for ploughing snow rather than fields.
Athy
I thought it was a JD3? and based on the 3 cylinder John Deere engine? Yes, there is such an engine - it superseded the BD3. I think Beta were no longer able to acquire the Ford base engines, so they switched to the John Deere. I suppose somebody will be along soon to tell us that John Deere based his engine on the Perkins P3 also!
mattlad
I thought it was a JD3? and based on the 3 cylinder John Deere engine? The Beta BD3 was based on a Ford engine. The JD3 is, as you say, based on a John Deere engine. Beaten to it by Athy!
Timleech
The Lister CRK3 was also based on the same Ford engine. Tim Edited April 14, 2014 by Timleech
