Hurth gearbox fluid level

Hiya, on the dipstick of my hurth 250 gearbox is a single marker around an inch or something from the lowest end. Does anyone know: is this the minimum or maximum fill level?

Hi, when i brought my hurth gearbox second hand some of the dipstick was missing from the filler plug. The way i got around it was to do a search on google for a workshop manual found out the capacity, filled it to that level then tacked a short length of welding rod to the plug and marked it off at that level. ( also checked inside box for missing part of the stick ) If you drain out the oil and refill to the capacity stated in the manual you can be sure it's correct.

I've always understood that the line is the fill level, measured wth the dipstick/filler screwed in, when the bottom of the dipstick is the minimum mark.

I think it's with the dipstick screwed out according tp the manual here.

That is my understanding. The dipstick just rests on the filler hole. The groove, near the tip, is the level. The gearbox is not likely to be level, it is probably a good idea to find the measure from a manual.
