Surface prep for blacking. Question.

Hello

A very quick question.

 

Just booked the boat in for DIY blacking in June.

 

I have searched for and can't find the thread on, those grinding type thingies that go on a power drill or angle. Grinder. You know the ones, big ugly teeth for taking the surface back to steel. Evil looking.

 

If you know please tell me. I'm going mad here.

Wire brush or flap wheel on a 4.5" angle grinder is probably the best tool for the job:

Edit to PS. Just looked on line, but the ones that come up are not the small (4" across ish) I was trying to think about. I will keep looking. I remember reading a thread about then on here about a year ago.

I think you may be thinking of the discs with the steel points on them where you can use several discs side by side for big areas. had a name like Terenco and I think Black Ibis used them to repaint the duck.

Arh! Yes. That's the ones. I did say I didn't know what they are called.

 

I will see how much now. It's only to take off old and "not so flaky" blacking.

The perago type tools and scabblers are much the best for removing blacking - flap-wheels may prematurely clog up with the waste
