Hence 'if you have the nerve'.

If the certificate is granted straight away, you can leave it until the last day the old one is valid. If the boat then fails, you have to get it compliant immediately. That's where the nerve comes in.

Honestly, if owning a boat with invalidated insurance for a week or three is your idea of something requiring 'nerve', you must lead a very sheltered life!

:)

Amazingly, considering it is nearing 80 pages, there hasn't been much evidence of a RUCKAS. I have however just noticed that the usual suspects are just getting going in the latest ACC thread.

Thanks for the heads up. I hadn't realised there was a fight that I was missing.

I had a quick look..... a waste of popcorn....but has potential to develop into something that meets the usual standards of internecine CWDF warfare.

The Boat Safety Scheme Examination is nothing to do with the Insurance Companies, it is soley to satisfy the requirements of the Navigation Authorities.

Some posters here say their insurance co specify the a valid BSS as a condition of insurance. Neither of mine say this though.

Mine does with craftinsure

"You possess a current Canal & River Trust or Environment Agency Licence, or the equivalent Licence from the local
Navigation Authority, and a current Boat Safety Certificate. In addition, if “xxxxxxx” is over 30 old years, you have in
your possession a full condition survey of the vessel, carried out whilst ashore and completed within the last five years by
a qualified yacht surveyor, with all recommendations complied with."
