Skipton or Hebden Bridge Advice Please

We are going to be embarking on our 1st 2 weeks away on our boat in August.

 

Setting off from Strawberry Island on Sheffield and South Yorkshire we are considering heading to either Hebden Bridge or Skipton. 3 of us on board, the missus, me and our 4 year old.

 

Any advice, tips greatly appreciated. We have been as far as Stanley Ferry before in our old cruiser.

 

We were considering the Chesterfield, but have been put off a bit by the amount of weed reported.

Either for me. Both are great. I would say Hebden is a touch easier.

Go Hebden I'd say the best bit of the Leeds and Liverpool is well west of skipton.

But don't forget if you go to Hebden, you'll have to book Tuel lane lock if going through Tues - Thurs (and coming back, of course).

Hi last year on 4 boats to Skipton we had a whale of a time. We only made it as far as Saltaire because the beer food and music festival got us! We had no problrms with the populace and all enjoyed the trip. Tou would be a day ahead of us because we are scattered between sheffild and rotherham. You will have to make your own mind up but sure you will enjoy either

On the South Yorkshire, I tied a stretchy wire round the tiller, and just gave it a little nudge every so often to keep the boat pointing in the right direction. That navigation is just hours and hours of perfectly straight water.....;-)
