Plywood

Featured Posts

I am about to replace the plywood topsides of the old tub, and have been told about aluminium-faced, high quality plywood.

Has anyone tried this, and what were the results like? I understand it gives a lovely smooth finish, but does it warp with temperature changes?

Are there any other alternatives?

Thanks

RD

Yes the barn doors on our removal lorries are made from the same. On the older lorry it's now badly corroded around the edges small bubbles & pinholes, the alloy is quite thin, having said that the truck was 13 years old, and removal lorry doors take one hell of a hammering and weathering over time and have lots of fittings like locks & latches. It would work well on a boat painted, of if you want to keep an alloy finish lacquer it.

Our lorries were dark green so absorbed lots of heat, it never warped, it's very well adhered but if its edges are exposed it doesn't take long before it begins peeling away from the ply. So protect edges well too if you use it.

A very good option where wood needs to be used IMO
