TheKeymeister
Sorry for yet more questions.... Actually had a read through the BSS guide last night, and it answered a few questions but gave me a few more questions... Regarding drip trays, apparently my tray should cover the whole of the engine and gearbox.... This to me suggests that using separate trays isn't allowed - any other thoughts on this? If I have to use one tray, back to square one, as there isn't space to physically manoeuvre one into place.... On the subject, my bilge pump outlet currently empties out quite high up, although I have a hole further down probably about 8-10 inches above the water line, is there anything stopping me moving it? Can't see anything obvious in the BSS guide saying not... Thanks again for everyones help and patience...
RLWP
This is very unhelpful, but the problem here is between what you want to do and what the BSS wants you to do. You want to put a tray under the engine and gearbox without removing them. The BSS just wants you to have a tray under the engine and gearbox. How you get it there is your problem Richard I said it was unhelpful
TheKeymeister
I understand that, just one of those things I suppose! Lets put it this way, theres no bloody way I'm lifting the engine out to get a tray under it!!

Tony Brooks
I understand that, just one of those things I suppose! Lets put it this way, theres no bloody way I'm lifting the engine out to get a tray under it!! I told you in the third post how you can construct an effective drip tray on a GRP boat without lifting the engine or resorting to metal tray(s). Metal trays in GRP boats are best avoided in my opinion because they harbour all sorts of crud under them and, as you have found, often require the engine lifting to get them out or bilge cleaning. If your boat has any limber holes under the said tray(s) they are also likely to become blocked. GRP work is messy but easy. Fit a wooden upstand between the engine beds just in front and behind the engine assembly and glass them in. Eddited to add:- I can see no reason why you should not fit a seperate shower pump discharging overboard - especially if your diagram shows a hose or pipe running into the engine room. TheKeymeister
Decided the easiest way to go will be to go back to the original idea of blocking the hole up, keeping the engine bilge separate from the rest of the system, and make sure I keep the roof up when it rains! I've got one of those 12 volt caravan type pumps for pumping anything out and I can draw any oil off afterwards....and probably fit it with an oil absorbent sock to aid this.... Shower pump isn't needed as per before, it's far too small of a compartment due to the V hull and its difficult enough to sit on the porta potti in there.... Thanks for all the advice everyone
