vintagescubaman
I was wondering how I should earth my inverter, I understand that it should be to the same point as the DC earth, which in my case is the starter motor. Would it be better to have a common earth on the engine block or perhaps the hull?

Yes General advice is to have the mains earth close to but not the same stud as the DC earth just in case the stud broke loose. You can see how PC approached the problem here: Tony

I would earth both the inverter and the batteries to the hull, if the engine is not bonded to the hull you could get a voltage between them and if that is 240 it not good
Guest
Inverter earth to hull, battery earth to hull. Not on same stud, but within 75mm of each other. That is what I've been brought up to believe.
