Heffalump
Hello chaps I'm looking for a traditional (read putt putt, preferably speedwheel) boat to hire on the week of December 4. I've found these; http://www.narrowboatforhire.co.uk/ http://www.middlewichboats.co.uk/trad_narrowboats.htm#Larch http://www.saisons.co.uk/html/minervois.html Not so keen on the last but hey. Do you know of any others?

RichardH
If you haven't boated before then bear in mind how much slippier boats can be in December and a trad offers far less easy access and egress. Trad controls do also take more getting used to. If you are specifically looking for winter hire, key questions should be the forms of heating etc. Larch from Middlewich is nice though ! Richard T
Union Canal Carriers have some 'Barney' boats which are lovely little trad boats.

Thanks, I'm used to winter boating! And I'm fine with trad controls. I will definitely be making sure there is adequate heating lol. Thanks. I've found these; http://www.narrowboatforhire.co.uk/ http://www.middlewichboats.co.uk/trad_narrowboats.htm#Larch http://www.saisons.co.uk/html/minervois.html Not so keen on the last but hey. Do you know of any others? I looked on the first two websites, but I got a warning from WOT that the last site is untrustworthy so didn't look any further on the minervois website! The RW Davis boat has an HRW3 and I am sure it will be an excellent boat in all respects, as it was built by *arguably* one of the two best builders. I have steered (briefly) Maple from Middlewich. She handles like a dream (16 foot swims) but is an old boat by modern hire standards. Larch looks more modern and most people like Hudson boats. Personally, I would go for the Northwich Trader, even though the interior wouldn't be ideal for me. Phil
