Internal windows for swan doors

Featured Posts

At the moment we have a perspex panel to keep the draft out when we have the side doors open. We are thinking of having a pair of glazed doors installed instead, which will open inwards against the side panels. Has anyone pictures of such doors and/or sources of such doors? Our existing wood is american light oak.

If you've got access to Canal Boat tests you should see a few pictures of different sorts. I've seen ones in wooden frames like a pair of inner windows that fold back against the inner cabin sides, also ones that slide back along the sides - they would be simpler to make, just lightweight frames running in sort of L-shaped runners (as Bottle's). Also seen lift-out framed toughened glass panels.

A lot depends on how much space you have around the hatches.

Bear in mind that as they are usually on the inner side of the cabin side (if you see what I mean) they probably won't make a very good weather seal against blown rain. Our perspex screens, on the other hand, are on the outside and sit against the hatch surround so they give half decent weather protection.

Hope that helps - but you do really need to see a few. A half-decent joiner should be able to make whatever you want.

... fitted in a frame and hinged at the side, as per a 'normal' window and frame

So are they reasonably watertight?

I do appreciate you wouldn't want to leave the hatch open if it was chucking it down, I was referring more to a light summer shower.

Well - - if one has the doors rebated so one overlaps the other - and treats the frame with a good polish or Danish Oil (preferably) - there'd be no reason why they shouldn't withstand light sha'ars
