Cockpit seat

I would like to have a small seat in the cockpit. What I would like is it mounted on the wall in front of the steering wheel and it pops up when you stand up'

As you can see there is not much room so the spring would need to be fairly flat. I have searched extensively for a spring to no avail. I know they are made as I saw the ideal thing in the lift in the doctors surgery!

The box that is there in this rather poor quality pic is no longer there.

Any ideas anyone?

Have a 'Google' (UK) for "flip-up seat" - including ""s. If you're looking for economy, I'd start with taxi breakers.

It's a start

"Ne pas utiliser les strapontins aux heures d'affluence" comes to mind every time I sit in the helmsman's seat, on the lifeboat.

(It's what is written on the windows, next to the fold away seats, on the Paris Metro).

My seat is weighted, rather than sprung, to make it fold up, out of the way. It Hinges at the sides, about 3 inches from the back.

Because the area is so narrow I need it to pop up instantly so that it is out of the way instantly, rather like a cinema seat's action (the way it works not what happens on it!!!)

Cinema seats also work using a counter balance weight, rather than springs, just like mine.
