Liam
Hi all, Just a quick question.. the brass plaques that most marinas and chandlers sell, which have names of canals, locks, tunnels etc. does anybody know a supplier for these? Thing is, we'll be hosting a Rally in 2006 and we're thinking of giving out a nice brass plaque in the goody bag boaters get. We'd like to use our own design and have these made up for us. Around 300! If anyone has any info, It'd be great. Cheers

We use these people for makers plates, CE plates etc on brass plate - Commercial Nameplate Manufacturing Co. Bullfrog
Liam Why not ask someone who has recently run such an event - eg the Blisworth tunnel bi-centenary bash where plaques were definitely part of the welcome pack. Liam
Thanks for that info Gary. David, yep, should be doing this really. In previous years, at other places we've had a brass plaque given. I will contact the relevant people and ask them where they got them from. Thanks
DHutch
Yeah, find some one who has had them make. - Or if you have a plaque, might be worth checking the back of it for a manufactors stamp/sticker/name/thingy. Daniel

David
Hi If you are wanting ones to your own design in cast brass or much nicer gunmetal not so yellow, you will need a master, a hand made (or now days can be computer generated and layered up on a special type of "printer" that builds up layers of wax very expensive unless atomised into large volumes of castings). If you can come up with a master, see model makers in yellow pages if you cannot do it yourself, or local tech colledge some art/design students etc do model making for castings you might find one willing to do it as a coursework project. There are several none ferrous casters who will cast small batches around. I have one in the Midlands who made me 10 for the Kelvin Engine owners cast from a master which was an original engine room plaque. They were large 300mm diameter and weighed 3Kg each, but they would have made more normal sized ones just as happily. David
John Wood
If you want genuine Brass Rally Plaques then try Manor Brass Unit 52 Boughton Indstl Est, Nr Ollerton, NEWARK, NOTTINGHAMSHIRE NG22 9ZB 01623-863069 They specialise in casting rally plaques. They also do a lot of casting for Traction engine restorers and Model engineers. They were featured on Fred Dibnahs " Made in Britain " programme. You will need to make your own master, or have it made for you. Ragsdale pattern makers in Retford Notts can do this, but obviously the more you have done for you the more it will cost. Better make your own if you know someone with the skills. Hope this helps John Wood
