Hello All,

I have just been made aware of the following and would ask the forums support.

Planning application is being considered at Riddlesden on the Leeds and Liverpool canal which will no doubt, if the development goes ahead, see the end to the precious 7 day moorings in this area along with total lack of access to the canal.

The application can be viewed at http://www.planning4bradford.com/publicaccess/

Application Number is 09/04930/FUL

There is an online petition to sign and comment at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/RiddlesdenCanalside.

Many Thanks

Whilst they will undoubtedly be very nice properties in a very nice location (we moored near there in August) you can't help but feel it will impact on the moorings, as one of the letters of objection points out will the residents of these really relish the thought of boats moored up against there front windows.

I doubt it.

Having looked at the plans I certainly get the feeling that within a very short space of time the new residents (if the development goes ahead) will be complaining about engines running and the like.

I suspect also that access to the marvellous Puffer Parts will be more difficult.

I agree with both of the views expressed, I find it surprising given the response to the unoffical notice saying No Mooring at Greenberfield Locks in a previous thread that that there seems to be little support from members to Ark Right's post.

We recently moored outside Puffer Parts to do some essential maintenance and took advantage of the seven days to complete the work.

Like Richard I too have viewed the plans and cannot see how, if the proposal is allowed, direct access to the chandlery will be possible.

Whilst staying on the moorings we noticed that there had already been a couple of similar developments allowed and although mooring was still permitted a waterpoint had been disconnected and the developments impinged on the towpath. It was evident during the time we were there that fellow boaters chose to ignore those moorings and used the same one as us.

This area of Ribblesden supports a number Boater friendly businesses. In addition to the chandlery an independent butcher, greengrocer, newsagent,off-licence,traditional "Chippy' and Co-op and good real ale pub all enjoy support from the boaters.

From what we could see there was still vacant accomodation available in the existing developments and its my guess that any new development would be acquired by commuters who would be less likely to support the local suppliers than the Boaters.

I have no personal interest in any of the above businesses but before retirement ran a small high street business near the L&L.

Use it or lose it.

Please support the petition.

John.

Well we have beaten the developers on 3 occassions now but last Friday here we go again this time to demolish the last Brick Warehouse and build fourteen hoses more houses along the Towpath The application can be viewed on www.bradford.gov.uk/publicaccess application number 11/04306/MAF this will severely reduce available moorings in Riddlesden and obscure us from the Canal any objections will be useful

Thanks

Iain
