Are there any particular issue when going through a deep lock?

 

None but the normal precautions when descending.

 

When your going up you have to be rather more cautious than usual with the paddles because they can be very fierce. And be really careful with gate paddles.

Sorry to be contrary but that's not Newark Town Lock: it alone of the trent locks downstream of Nottingham is built with steel piles not Mass concrete (and as a result hasn't needed shoring up!)

 

I'm glad that someone spotted my deliberate mistake :lol: , it is in fact Gunthorpe Lock (until someone tells me I'm wrong!)

Lots of deep lock on the continent have floating bollards recessed into the walls. You need them on locks like this one on the Rhone:-

Bear in mind, to give an idea of scale, the boat is 16' beam. As far as I can remember the lock is about 50m deep.
