Hi all,

I have now replaced all of my MR16 10w halogen bulbs with LEDs and I've got two boxes of bulbs sitting in our spare room taking up valuable space. Could somebody make use of them? There are about 18 or 20 of them and they're all in perfect condition - only used for a few months. Make me an offer and I'll post them to you.

Sorry, can't use the halogen bulbs. However I am interested in using LED replacements. Did you go for direct replacements - what wattage were they rated at? I've seen some at a local market in Dubai that are marked as being rated at 1 watt, they're only 8 dirhams, that's just over a pound each, any idea how much light a 1 watt bulb will produce?

These are all Chinese stuff, they don't go in for information leaflets much!

These bulbs turned up a couple of weeks ago from China. Fitted them all in last weekend and very pleased with them. They're warmwhite which mimics closely the Yellowish light you get from halogens. The 48 led's make them very bright, at least equivellent to a 20w but probably more. They also look much better with a larger cluster of led's than the ones with only 20 to 30 led.

I'm a crap photographer but the photo does show the warmer light you get from these particular led's

They're £36.60 for 10 delivered, that's £3.66 each , a pretty good deal

Hi Julynian

Very interested in your experience with the LED bulbs - are they lasting OK?

Elsewhere there seem to be reports of the cheaper ones being very sensitive to voltage fluctuations and failing in a few weeks., even when they supposedly include voltage regulators of some kind.

Thanks - Nigel

Hi

for info a bloke in HongKong sells MR16 LED bulbs on ebay 72 LEDs very bright, he known as willian6trade from memory and hes very good to deal with.

On the subject of these bulbs not lasting very long there is a problem. Voltage surges from things such as water pumps being switched on / off can be as high as 300V which doesnt do the bulbs any good. Whats needed is a voltage suppressor mounted as close to the bulb as possible. I did find one seller on the net who claims his bulbs include a supressor but I'm still wary  having had a couple of bulbs die before I found out about this I now have suppressors fitted to all light fittings where I've changed to LED, so far no more problems.
