Also don't forget if your going in June to allow a little more time for the locks as it is busy season! cheers Rick
Hobbler
My preference would be to start from Warwick or Nuneaton , do the South Midlands ring with a detour up the Ashby depending on time available.

We loved everything north of Hinckley on the Ashby, stopped at the battlefield moorings and took a walk with the dogs through the site where Richard III was killed in battle. Stumbled upon a visitor centre there which was still being built or extended and a lovely wood too. I've got photos of the week if you're interested. Bigmac
If you're looking in that area, have a look at Black Prince at Napton. You could consider all the routes you mentioned (obviously going towards Oxford this time) The boats are really clean and comfortable. We have used them the last two years and would certainly recommend them. Whatever you end up doing, have a great time. Lovely part of the system. They are great, although I found it a little underpowered on the River Severn. Comfortable well appointed boats!
adam1uk
We hired a couple of times from Kate Boats and have happily recommended them many times. They tend to be cheaper than the likes of Black Prince. Warwickshire Ring is a great route, particularly if you like locks. The Oxford is also very attractive. Haven't done the Ashby, partly because "lock-free cruising" doesn't appeal!
tony collins
Don't try to do the Warwickshire ring in a week if you want to do anything other than boat and sleep. The trip from Gayton to the Ashby will give you a bit of everything. Wide locks, narrow locks, two tunnels (twice), with Braunston (busy) and the Ashby (less so). Another thing about an "out and back" holiday is that you are not committed to a schedule. simply turn around when half your time is up. I thoroughly recommend the Nuneaton/Ashby option, loads to see. the Battle of Bosworth site. The restored Railway that runs between Shenton and Shackerstone etc. Tony
