BMC 1.5 diesel rebuild

Do I need to replace the cylinder head bolts with new?  They seem pretty expensive but I don't intend to "spoil the ship".

We never did, as they are not modern stretch bolts, unless they were damaged or badly corroded from something like a gasket leak.

Never have, never will. I don't think I have ever snapped one either.

Oil the threads before torqueing down in at least 3 stages working from the centre out each time. Do yo have the special wrench or an 11/16" crowfoot?  You will need to get at the ones under the rocker shaft.

Ive replaced the used TTY bolts using a torque wrench ,not the massive tension they used originally.....and never had any comeback...............I did this on a Cummins with around 35 headbolts ......new bolts were over $10 each................some makers specify a length check,if the bolt isnt over length ,then it can be reused.
