After significant welding work (post survey plating) what's you view on a second survey?

When relevent, things to watch out / ask for etc...

If its an over plate on the baseplate, I would ensure that it was plug welded to the original in many places and that the edge welds were truly watertight.

But then I would never over plate.

Neither would I pay for a survey, except to satisfy an insurer, not worth much in my opinion.

As above, can't see the point. If you trust the welder, you're fine, if he's messed up the surveyor is unlikely to spot it and there will be so many weasel words in the survey he won't be responsible for anything anyway.

A good coat of blacking should bung up any holes in the new welding...

 

 

(Just as it probably would have done in the old steelwork! )
