GBW
My replacement 1.5 diesel engine is ready for its pistons. I can't find any recommendations for ring gap setting. Anyone help please?
Tony Brooks
From Goggle - first hit. As a basic rule of thumb, a gap of 0.004-inch of end gap per inch of cylinder bore diameter is a good place to start. Some second ring sets can be set slightly looser, but that depends on the ring configuration and the manufacturer specs.16 Jul 2015 Gap Rap: How to Measure and Set Piston Ring End Gap OnAllCylinders

I set BMC 1.5D and 1.8D to 10 to 14 thou. but have not had to set any new rings for donkey's years. They always seem right straight out of the box. MtB
Surely the ring gap varies according to which ring tone you've selected...
