 Now I'm retired and doing lots of DIY on house and boat, can I claim to be working as a house/boat fitter and get trade discount from the usual suppliers? I could easily knock up some headed paper on the computer.

That's pretty much what I did, can't remember the exact qualifying requirements, it did save me 10% on the new kitchen 😉
