Finds along the towpath

Now spending a long time at one mooring in lockdown on the T&M near Burston so getting to know the towpath here. We are finding several fragments of medieval or maybe even Roman floor tiles coming up in the many mole hills. Wondering now what was here before the navvies dug it all up for the canal. Also wondering what other archaeological finds boaters have discovered when moored up.

The village has an info board so we now know that the canal was dug very close to a medieval church and before that a Roman settlement.
