British Marine and the Association of Inland Navigation Authorities have jointly launched a consultation on proposed changes to the Hire Boat Code.

The proposal of changes to the Code considers the advances in boat design, regulation and operation which have occurred since the first Code was published in 2008.

The revised code is intended to be mandatory and may result in ‘significant’ costs for businesses.

Proposed changes include responsibilities for hire boat operators, hirers and hire boat licensing authorities of sailing boats over 6m LOA and powered boats of all lengths, as well as amendments to key technical standards.

The Code provides the framework for safe business operations, clarification of operators, navigation authorities and user responsibilities.

The consultation will provide the industry with the opportunity to review and assess how the changes will affect their businesses in the future.

The consultation period will close on March 9 2020.

The new Code will replace the existing Code for the Design, Construction and Operation of Hire Boats.

Maximum 6 hours a day cruising range in line with the CRT lock closures standards, no movement after 5pm as this is when CRT people who actually know anything stop answering phones.
