  1. Both works were originally planned to be done in winter but have been delayed.
  2. Woodend lock near Fradley is no longer the end of the wood. There are now miles of nothing and the south westerly can be a surprise as you leave the lock! Hopefully the trees will be replanted when HS2 is cancelled.
  3. Isn’t this section of HS2 being deferred for 2 years ? Could that be the reason for the delay to the towpath works ? It would be nice if they did the works in winter instead of removing very popular and busy moorings during the summer boating season.
  4. So the affected Fradley and Great Haywood moorings will be closed all summer. Perfect timing by CRT.
  5. Visitor moorings closed Great Haywood and Tixal Wide from 8 May until September after several delays starting the works. Very disappointing.
  6. In his earlier posts he said it was built in 1989. Assuming it is the same boat.
  7. I see that the current smart gauge website has removed Gibbo’s pages about isolation transformers.
  8. Victron tell you to only connect the neutral on the boat side of the isolation transformer to the hull earth. I think this has created a lot of debate in the past as there is a risk of a fault creating a voltage between the boat and the shore which could electrocute you when boarding - as well as dissolving the boat.
  9. It could be three visits from their “authorised representative” which might be a reasonable basis.
  10. Selling a > 5 year old boat in the UK that was built for own use in the UK without CE mark is not a breach of the RCR even if it doesn’t meet the essential requirements as it is exempt. (RCR Clause 4g) Don’t forget though we also have common law in the UK i.e. Tort which means you can claim damages against anyone who is “negligent” without reference to any regulations.
  11. See : Distributor or agent: why does it matter? (wrighthassall.co.uk) for definition of an agent and a distributor. Brokers are normally only acting as the seller's agent for sale of second hand boats and make this clear in their T&Cs. Responsibility for any non-compliance with the RCR remains with the seller. It is different of course if the broker has bought the boat and is reselling it. Brokers want full disclosure of the RCR documentation because they can face civil claims if they mislead the buyer. (Consumer Protection (Amendment) Regulations 2014).

  15. The RCR section 43 says that a major modification of engine or craft requires a new assessment / Declaration of Conformity / CE marking. It doesn’t say what major means but it is similar to other directives which require new CE marking where any modifications have created new hazard not considered in the original assessment.
  16. OK whatever. You are quoting random Google extracts from legislation that has no relevance to everyone’s questions and concerns and just stressing everyone out. An Authorised Representative is the term used for a UK based company which will do UKCA certification for foreign companies and CE certification for UK companies. I repeat that an agent has no responsibility for CE validity and this seems to include most brokers.
  17. An authorised representative is appointed to obtain CE notified body certification and hold documentation in the UK. This legislation has no connection to the responsibilities of agents and distributors. An agent is not mentioned in RCD / RCR as they have no responsibilities.
  18. This has come up before on this thread but the legal definition of a distributor is someone that buys and resells a product and he will then will assume full responsibility for the validity of any CE marking as is described in the various references quoted in the thread. The legal definition of an agent is an adviser, usually to the seller, who does not take any part in the commercial transaction. An agent would have no responsibility for the validity of the CE marking in any other field e.g. Machinery Directive. Only the seller would be responsible. Whether a broker is a distributor or an agent depends on their agreement with the seller and the documentation used for the sale. As I have never bought or sold through a broker it would be interesting to see some broker documentation. See https://www.aqueductmarina.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/Vendor-Agreement-Contract-.pdf The broker makes it very clear they are only acting as agent.
  19. What about stepping off with the centre rope to tie up with the boat still in gear. Could pass it off as a way to bring the boat alongside as long as you are quick enough and there is a bollard.
  20. UKCA will be another nail in our brexit international trading coffin. A lot of foreign suppliers are not going to appoint the “Authorised Representative” needed to rewrite the technical files, obtain UKCA certification and hold the files for 10 years just for the small UK market. It will be CE mark or US ANSI or forget it. It will wipe out all sorts of our industries using imported components not just construction. I think / hope the delay until 2025 will mean the next government will just abandon UKCA.
  21. You will need to explain what going crazy means eg pump running and no water coming out of the taps or pump running with taps closed, or ??. Which direction did you turn the valve to loosen it - clockwise or anticlockwise ? Did you try to undo what you did?
  22. I glued some angle brackets on the roof using Stixall. Still there after 3 years.
  23. The ditch runs from the blue lake / pond due south under the canal and railway line into the Mare brook. Been there a while !
  24. There is a pretty obvious channel passing under the canal midway between the bridges. On Google maps satellite view it is about 5 boat lengths in front of the boat. Probably regularly inspected by the linesmen when we had them.
