Domestic stove installer suggesting Skamolex board direct onto wood, behind the stove in my barge -thoughts onthis? I'm in Ireland so not subject to Bss, and we don't have boat stove installers here. I proposed the 10mm gap and 25mm calcium silicate recommendation from Solfitel, but he felt that was over the top.......
Interested to hear what people have done, mushroom vents with fans, window fans, wall fans etc - opening the window isn’t enough, need a fan mounted somewhere to extract steam, - thoughts?
would appreciate makes and models of things you’ve found work well
I want to mount my panels at 15 deg, and don’t want to drill or screw into the roof, any examples of brackets etc that make that possible?
(Don’t want to make any holes in roof as they are just an invitation to a leak at some point)
I’m interested in the hive minds thoughts about batteries; live aboard, adding 900w of solar, currently have 4x663 100ah batteries, 5 year old sterling inverter charger. The 663’s I know are “technically” for starting cars, but they have done well for 5 years, don’t have budget for lithium, battery box hard to access so not keen on maintaining wet cells.
what would you do?
I’m in ireland so no issues with chimney and low bridges ? it’s slightly lower than the wheelhouse so only time it needs to be removed is to sweep the chimney, which is now done ?
Thanks, no pop rivets, when I try turning it the whole chimney turns which isn’t a good idea! Feels like I need to loosen it before opening like a paint tin??
I need to sweep my chimney (Morso Squirell, fixed stainless steel chimney system) but the cap is stuck firmly, probably tar/cresosote from the look of it, any suggestions for how to get it off (without whacking it with a hammer) would vinegar, or WD40 or baking soda be suitable to soak it in????
Has anyone tried the Star Brite rust converter? https://www.chmarine.com/starbrite-rust-eater-and-converter-650ml/
Don't see it mentioned in any posts when I searched....
Anyone had success with other brands?
