  1. Hi by eck Just looking at the label now, it's - The automobile supply mfg co Brooklyn ny USA HANDPHONE Patent pending !!
  2. Thanks Springy, i'll grease the cam face lightly. This is it, a manual one - What do you recon, a light grease on 1,2 & 5..... oil 3 & 4.... ? Cheers, Mark.
  3. Thanks for the reply, that looks a 'bobby dazler' !!! Cheers, Mark
  4. Hi All Just bought a rather nice klaxon . I've stripped it down as it needs a repaint & clean internally does anyone know whether I should oil , grease or both on the gearing ? Thanks Mark
  5. Hi pquin If you look at the eBay link above, you will see the 240v mains adaptor which has a black lead at each end. You would need to cut off the dc 12v lead which you will use on a boat. The mains adapter & 13amp plug can be binned. The 'cut' lead has a small plug on the end, this plugs into one side of the white receiver / control unit. The cut end of the lead would need connecting to any suitable 12v + & -ve supply. A cig. Lighter socket should be suitable. Hope this helps, Mark .ED to add the programmable timer next to our radio is not needed but was added to as an extra facility. It allows the lights to be switched on when away from boat, I tend to use it as a simple on / off, not having bothered to use the timer facility.
  6. Thanks for the replys The LED strip is designed for to work around a 12v supply. The kit was bought from eBay outlet .... Flashplus http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kits-5m-10m-5050-3528-RGB-LED-Light-Strip-Striplight-Remote-Control-Supply-/321065251692?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Night_Lights_Fairy_Lights&var=&hash=item4ac0faf36c Select .....Waterproof 5050, only available in 5m, colour = 16 colours RGB, looks like they are now £21.99. Inflation (You can get single colours which do not need the remonte control ) The LED strip has 4 connections at each end, it can be cut at intervals every 3 LED. It is possible to get the 'crimps' to join / extend. I actually used 8 wire alarm cable , twisting the pairs together to make 4 wires & then soldered joints to extend. It was difficult as the connections are so close together, only for the brave !!! In hind sight I would probably purchase manufactured connectors, there are many different types on eBay. Mark.
  7. Hi All, I thought I would share this - I was bought the kit for fathers day, It consists of - A 5 metre length of 12 volt waterproof led strip Remote control. A receiver. A mains adapter ( not needed ). I bought a length of 'L' shaped wooden trim which when varnished exactly matched our ceiling. Drilling the holes was a challenge. I decided to use this on/off & multi function timer that I had previously bought to have as a heater timer on eBay for £5.- Its out of site when the cupboard door is closed. The remote control changes the colour to any of 15 colours, as well as having many other options. The lights are fitted under the wall cupboard, behind the curtain pelmet & either side of the cabin above the seating area. The colours can be dimmed to soft or set very bright. Average current consumption is about 1 amp for 5 metres of light !! I think this below is a bit harsh Mark
  8. Surely it also depends on airdraft, our boat has a 6' air draft whereas our neighbour is about 5'
  9. Bunch of keys found today Thursday 11th July. If any CART employees are around I will leave them with them at their Top lock room /office. If not I will keep them for a week or so. We moor at Furness Vale Marine on the Upper Peak Forest Canal. Mark.
  10. Excellent job I'd give you a greenie if I knew how !! Mark.
  11. Our Sea Otter has a 6' air draft & I must admit the front corners of the cabin are pretty close to the roof arch at the tunnels lowest point. We have to maintain concentration to avoid this low area ! Mark.
  12. Hi, The instructions with our Stecca 20amp controller advises - disconnect panels at controller before disconnecting a battery lead. Reconnect in reverse order I.e batteries first. I covered our panels with a blanket before doing anything . Hope it helps Mark.
  13. Hi, I have added extra drawings to the first section of the thread showing 'rough ' plans. Mark. ps, like the boats !!
  14. Hi Madcat, I think it was a couple of years ago that I made it, so any plans ( back of fag packet ) are long gone. Next time I'm at the boat I'll get some measurements but they may need tweaking to a persons personal preferences. Mark.
  15. Hope this idea may be of use to others We felt that we would benefit from a 2 bench seat. The new unit was made out of a single sheet of 8' x 4' Beech faced 18mm ply. It is very similar to the original American White Ash. I was lucky that the timber yard cut the sheet up on their machine to my exact sizes ! Some planed 2"x 2" is required for corner work. Glued & screwed it makes a very sturdy unit. Storage - one half is lined with insulation, making a cool box with sliding & lift out lid. Top drops into position to become ( with cushions ) a 2 seater...... - note 2 legs ( from Homebase ). It can be slidout to become a 2seats + coffee table or 3 seats or bed............. ( Note -storage lid is lifted out & turned to new position.). How we use it as a 2 seater.... ( excuse the incomplete carpet ! ). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leg fixing - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And here is an exploaded view - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to cut from an 8' x 4' sheet - Mark.

  17. Thanks for the positive comments Lets hope it has to be used to keep the intense sun off for a few weeks this summer Mark.
  18. We saw a Narrow boat on the Peak Forrest Canal with a similar canopy. Having had 9 days of solid rain during our fortnight cruise around the 'Four Counties ring we last July thought .... what a good idea ! ( Probably wouldn't use it in a gale !! ) Before any cover was made the frame was taped into position so that measurements could be taken. The frame was then taken home where the material was laid out on the kitchen floor & cut to size. My daughter then worked wonders with her sewing machine. This is mainly made using the 8mm fiberglass poles from a 2nd hand Igloo tent. The material that we used is best described as a robust umbrella type, we had it as a car cover many years ago. The Igloo tent actually had enough material available but it was the wrong colour. The plastic 'T' pieces are from plant irrigation apparatus & have a 10mm internal diameter. A slot can be cut easily along the length to allow it to be clipped on / off the pole. The cable glands are a very convenient way of allowing adjustment, simply nip them up when in the required position. The 27mm awning pole clamps were modified to fit onto the roof hand rail & can be moved / tightened up before the pole is dropped into position. Out on the canal it works really well, on passing through our many low bridge arches on the Peak Forest you simply ' push' it sidewards to avoid scraping the side of the arch. Unclipping the front end allows the frame to flatten out so it is possible to pass under low square bridges where you may have to duck down. Since making the cover we have come across some 'khyam' manual joints which is best described as working like an elbow. This allows the frame to fold up more quickly. Hope you like ............ Mark
