  1. Hi all, thanks for the advice. We made it to Bath. The avon looks a bit flooded. That was Wednesday, it was going down a bit by then. Luctor, I said hello as I passed but didn't realise it was you until we had passed. Stopping for a pint at the cross guns on the way back, discovered the beer garden was closed. Now we are in Bradford for the next four or so weeks whilst the leak is repaired. Still despite the rain we had a great time. Thanks Dave
  2. Hi, it looks like the weather has cancelled any chance of going down the Avon. Oh well, travel very slowly towards Bath and back again. Never mind it will be good to get out. Thanks everybody for all the suggestions. Many thanks Dave
  3. Hi, the Avon sounds like fun. I've just made a new gangplank from an old aluminium ladder (it's next to me now in the sitting romm with the paint drying), looks like a good oportunity to try it out. We've got eleven days ahead of us. We aren't in any hurry. We wan't to explore whatever's west of us but I think Bath could arrive quite quickly. Being able to go down to the Avon gives us a chance to explore further. That would be nice. The weather may decide how far we go. I don't mind a bit of rain but it's not so much fun spending too long in it. Better to moor near a good pub. Thanks Dave
  4. Hi, once I get down that way I am a local (albeit many years ago). Dave
  5. Thanks Brian and Luctor. Hanhams quite tempting. That would put me within 2 miles of where I grew up. Whats the rules on mooring on the Avon? Do you just stop anywhere or do you have to pay mooring fees like the Thames? Thanks Dave
  6. Hi all, I am going from Devizes to Bath next week. How far can I go on my BW licence? Does it cover the Avon or where do I have to turn around in Bath? Thanks Dave

  8. Thats familiar. Our boats a BP. Both the Eberspacher fuse melted and one in the main fuse block also. It seems as if they warm up and the plastic piedce softens, increases contact resistance due to reduced pressure on the metal ans so on until it falls apart. One of my nexdt jobs is to replace the main fuse block with mcbs a friend has volunteered to donate when I tell him what I need. Dave
  9. Hi all, I was thinking about that last week whilst clearing out my dads house. I was looking through some photo albums and came across photos of our boating holidays whilst I was a teenager. I think my parents got me hooked. The current plan started whilst on a bike trip with my wife to Bradford on Avon. We were sat having a coffee watching the boats through the lock when she said to me I would like one. I was surprised as she has a fear of water. Two weeks later we helped a friend from work move his boat from Dundas to BoA as he was selling it. She was hooked. The kids had just grown up and left home so we hatched a plan. We started looking for moorings and at boats. We won one at Devizes January last year and then Bar G, the boat that fitted our needs and we loved in February. By March we owned it. Now busy decorating and clearing the house to sell it. This has been hampered by going back to the boat to stay as it's so much better. So far the best think we have ever done. We have had bad times, macerator toilet blocking and breaking, heating failure and water pump failing. These haven't stopped us enjoying it. Dave
  10. we received our voting pack this week. All it contains is a voting form and a booklet of mahifestos in a that has cart on its front page. No mention of BW. Using forums etc I was aware of what is happening. I wonder how many people will get the pack and have no idea of what it is about. Surely some information about what is happening and what they are voting for would make this election fairer. I don't understand how the electoral Reform Society can run a fair election without informing people what they are voting for. Puzzled Dave
  11. Hi, we have mild and satinless at work. I could use either. I thought stainless to prevent any more rusting. Which do you think is best? Thanks Dave
  12. Hi, our boat is a Black Prince with Worcester Marine windows. Thos are the ones with the clips that lean the whole glasss panel inwards. There is one mention of double glazing being available for them. Does anyone have any experience of these? Thanks Dave
  13. Hi, My Bunny has a rusted throat plate. Since it seems to be folded from sheet metal the mech team at work reckon they can mke me one. They have plently of stainless in the workshop. My question is will stainless take the heat? Any ideas? Dave
  14. I think at those voltages 2 pairs of rubber gloves might be needed. Dave

  17. Please make it goggles not safety specs. I had one embed a wire in my cheek once. Deep enougth to need tweezers to get it out. Dave
  18. Hi, to mount mine I made an H frame in wood. In eack corner I fitted a magnet fom an old hard disc drive (very powerful). In the centre of the H a pole bracket with a 2 foot pole. It's survived all of this winters storms with no problems. In fact it is now supporting a tv aerial and a satellite dish. piccy below http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n607/davewally/DSCI0139.jpg Dave

    At Last!

Hi, congratulations. I remember the emotions well, we haven't had our boat a year yet. They ranged from elation when the offer was accepted through to the 'what have we done now' some time later. We are camping out in the house whilst decorating and down sizing. When fed up with this we go back to the boat and realise how good it is. We have had niggling problems, the worst of which was the macerator toilet failing (please don't start everyone!) which was sorted by designing a new switch assembly and the recent water pump failure. These both had a bonus as I now have a backup portpotti and water pump. I think we now have two of almost everything. I think I must be getting into the relaxed mind set as I now think if water isn't coming through the hull it's not a big problem, I can fix it. enjoy your boat Dave
  20. Hi all, thanks for the replies. The leaflet with the pump is on the boat. I think it quotes the cut in and out pressures. When I get back to it I will set it below the cut in pressure and see how well it behaves. Thanks again Dave
  21. Hi, I can't remember its name but it's a 2003 58 footer. (Just looked it up Duchess 2) When I found it was a through bilge I worried about a leak at the back sinking the boat. So far my only leaks have been internal so it's worked well. It made draining the water system easy as the calorifier has a drain cock straight into the bilge. I do worry that once all my internal leaks are sorted a through bilge allows the metalwork I can't see or access easily stay wet. Ta Dave
  22. Hi, I have refitted the pump today and just blipped the power on to check it worked. It was just a quick blip since when I removed the pump and accumulator assembly to take it back to the house I drained the water system. The tank was near empty and I drained the rest since we will be in the house for the next month decorating it for sale, as well as getting my second bike through an MOT, clearing out the shed, putting my tools in storage etc....... Nearly there. At least twe will have water when we get back. i think my best bet is to worry about the pressure when I refill the tank and use it. One good thing, being a Black Prince boat it has a through bilge so all the water that leaked is taken care of by the bilge pump. Thanks Dave
  23. Hi, it will be a bit of a pain to get at as there isn't much room between the valve and the bulkhead. I am thinking of fitting a right angled adaptor like the ones used on bikes where the discs stop you getting garage air lines on. What are the symptons if the pressure is wrong? Thanks Dave
  24. Hi, he definately said 5psi. He did this without seeing the acumulator, only the old pump. Thanks dave
  25. Hi all, I have just replaced my water pump (Jabsco 25 psi) and the man at the boatyard said set the accumulator to 5 psi. Question, when do I set this pressure? When the pump is off and the system empty or when the system is full and the pump has brought the pressure up? Why have Jabsco moved the feet and changed the height of the inlet and outlet? The pump started leaking at Christmas, it had already played up, needing a tap to start it, so I thought get a new one before everywhere closed down so at least we would have water for the week. I will fix the old one as a spare. Thanks Dave
