    filling holes

I used this product on the roof (underside of my chimney collar) where, the metal had corroded. Just built it up in layers until the desired thickness was achieved. Very strong stuff!
  2. I agree. Bought Bedazzled LED's and they are fine. Some will say they are over priced but compared to my local chandler.... an LED that cost £9 from Bedazzled was £32 in the chandler!

    Clonking Noise ?

Mechanical. I always let the revs die down before changing. Idle is set at approx 650rpm I have a flexible coupling and all the bolts are tight. Does checking the drive plate mean, splitting the gearbox/engine? or is there an inspection hole?
  4. As an expert said. It's so rare for a keel to come off. It's like all 4 wheels coming off your car at the same time. They would have had very little time to react. Brave Crew
  5. Some say you are tempting fate changing a boat name. Here's an example: The USS Phoenix was a Brooklyn class light cruiser launched in 1938. She survived the attack on Pearl Harbour with very little damage, (if any) whilst most of the other ships went down. She was sold to Argentina in 1951 and went into service in the Falklands war and was sunk by the nuclear sub HMS Conqueror. 323 people lost their lives. If you are superstitious then leave the name or just remove it from the boat and sail blank.

    Clonking Noise ?

Gearbox oil was changed last Sept 20hrs done since then. Regards prop shaft, not done that. What does that mean anyway? Since I bought the boat 5 years ago it's always done this.

    Clonking Noise ?

Is this normal ? When I have the throttle lever in neutral and engage forward or reverse there is an annoying clonking noise. I always allow a few seconds before going from Forward/Rev or Rev/Forward and I move the lever gently to it's position Does something need adjusting to stop this like a cable etc...? The engine mounts are new and tight but, even with the old engine mounts it still did this. BMC 1500 PRM Gearbox Is this a common BMC/PRM problem?
  8. Sorry to hear this. If you have to return through the same stretch try, and do it as early as possible on a week day when all these 'scrotes' are either in bed or watching Jeremy Kyle.
  9. If they are welded very close to the old ones then, this shouldn't be a problem as the bow is curved away from the lock/towpath bank and, the stern ones are tucked away underneath out of harms way. I have seen a few boats with anodes in the center of the hull inside a recess. This would be a problem adding extras as, there is no extra recess and there would be a high chance of them shearing off in locks or against the towpath bank.
  10. It comes with a silicon type product on the back which you press onto the surface you wish to cover. You could always add silicon if you wish. If I recall, it was £7 for 3.35m and they have various widths....
  11. Just don't polish it. They soon weather and go dull. Have to be honest. I am not a fan of super shiny paintwork either. Much prefer the matt look
  12. Is it possible to have too many anodes on a narrowboat? My local chandler man who has done a degree in engineering, (what ever that has to do with it), says, that fitting too many anodes can be as bad as having too little protection. Where as, my Boat Cert Examiner says it won't harm the boat hull but nor will it be of any extra benefit. I see many boats that have worn anodes and they weld new ones next to them instead of removing them. What are peoples opinions on this?
  13. I used to buy the BLUE direct from the manufacture at almost 1/2 the price of the chandlers. But now I just use cheap bleach poured in carefully so as not to touch the seal and then swill with a liter of water to dilute. Never smells. The outlet for the BLUE is in Wigan, so if anyone wants the address I can supply. Cut out the middle man!
  14. If used properly they are safe. [/uR and, before anyone says... 'it looks very close to that light/switch' the photo is misleading. It's actually a foot away and, the tea light gives off very little heat.

  16. Really ? I have been on many peoples boats who have pump outs and I have to say that they all had a sewer smell (especially in Summer). I have never been in favour of having a large tank of sewage sloshing about under my bed or where ever it may be. Now that's unhygienic to say the least....

    bmc engine

And, another tip regards overfilling. Never overfill the engine oil as BMC's are renowned for spitting it out through the engine breather pipe as I found out once!
  20. Do you mean they get knocked off when moored up or in locks? Why not set them in a recess then? maybe, because a recess has welded seams and thus makes them vulnerable also ?
  21. Shouldn't the inside be stripped before such a task? Just out of curiosity, how much area does an anode protect ? Seems odd to have them at the bow and stern and nothing in the middle.
  22. Second that. It took ages to get the gate open. When we did them, both locks were coated with a sea of tin cans. Did them early before the Scallywags arrived!
