  2. I agree with the water in fuel theory. Had a similar problem with a diesel fired Squirrel in my previous boat. A good dose of Fuel Set sorted it out and then it ran clean without smoke. Regard Ditchdabbler
  3. I pretended to leave my boat at Kildwick for a week this summer and had no problems, Coat. Regards Ditchdabbler
  4. I half remember an article in one of the waterways magazines about 'the boat that uses old engine oil as fuel' and there was mention of the type of injector pump in that modern pumps are not suitable for this type of fuel. IIRC the article said the RN has something called a 'jabber' pump although I might be wrong about this and I have no idea what a 'jabber' pump might look like. Regards Ditchdabbler

  6. Hmmmm. I wonder, could a short period using this stuff be a cure for the 'glazed bores' that so many canal boats suffer from? Regards Ditchdabbler
  7. I think it is bad form for the op not to have identified himself and his company. However it is in all our interests to recover stolen property and perhaps we should set aside the op's gaffe. Perhaps 'Grant' could provide further info. Regards Ditchdabbler
  8. I agree, boat-dwellers are generally a decent bunch but this example is another instance of water-pikeys spoiling a nice area. Generally folk do not choose to live overlooking a scrap-yard and nor do they expect to have an unlicensed unregulated scrap yard dumped on their doorstep. Live and let live is always ok provided it happens in someone else's area. I have been quite shocked in the past when a friend I thought I knew well and who had always professed such liberal views suddenly turned into an extreme nimby when something happened to spoil his perfect existence. I am sure that if the residents contacted their council some action could be taken. Regards Ditchdabbler
  9. Merry Xmas to everyone from myself and my Landlady. Let's all make a resolution to play nicely together in 2013 and here's hoping for good cruising. Regards Ditchdabbler and Landlady

  13. Why? Are licensed cab owners blessed with any more common sense or driving skills than any other car driver? If it was a private car full of unsuspecting passengers it would be not as serious then? Perhaps its ok to drown a passenger as long as they are not paying for the privilege. Regards Ditchdabbler

  16. I think this is true, Waxoyl needs to be applied warm to hot and if possible on a warm surface. With the boat in the water the metal might well be too cold for the Waxoyl to penetrate before it hardens. Regards Ditchdabbler
  17. Would Owatrol oil be a suitable substitute for diesel? Regards Ditchdabbler
  18. Had a similar problem on a car engine. Turned out to be the alternator bearings failing. Regards Ditchdabbler

  21. Bottom Blacking is only served in halves so there was no need to specify. Regards Ditchdabbler
  22. Pint of Bywash sir? Ground Paddle is very good today. Lock Mouth needs to mature a little. Boatman's Cabin is our guest ale next week. Sheeted Up, a strong ale dont' drink too many! Big Woolwich, a 'beefy' beer with a strong aftertaste Small Woolwich, a lighter beer for a summer day. etc. Regards Ditchdabbler
  23. Pint of Pump Out for me and a Bottom Blacking for my Landlady. Regards Ditchdabbler
  24. I'll have a pint of Armpit please landlord. Regards Ditchdabbler
  25. Is it because the seals are designed to prevent oil from leaking out and not to prevent water from leaking in? If so then it might be reasonable to suspect the seals on a marine gearbox might be the same. Regards Ditchdabbler
