  1. If the Inverter/Charger is a new one it will have a ground relay that is used by default. (A good clue is it will have a sticker on it saying VE Bus enabled. I think all the Multiplus range had ground relays but the older straight Multi's didn't)
  2. Try disconnecting the circulation pump that would be my next favourite.
  3. With inverters you pays your money and get what you paid for!
  4. The Uno is actually a bit simpler because its only got one burner and the programmer in integrated into the cooker, it would still be a good idea unplug the green plug and see what happens. You should really have a double pole isolator in the spur too to fully isolate the cooker if needed.
  5. I have installed a lot of Heritages and Victron kit together without a problem so there aren't any issues there. My money would be on the wiring of the thermostats programmer and pump etc if you have a problem here it can all work until such a time that a thermostat switches then all trip off. The other one to look out for is any leaks getting into the electrics. If you unplug the green supply plug in the Heritage you in effect isolate it from the system and can see if it still trips. Is it a Uno or a Compact because they work in slightly different ways?
  6. Something is wrong! It might be just simply a loose connection on the bus bar causing resistance and heat but if not it's more serious. A switch is very unlikely to cause a short because it simply makes or breaks the circuit however if it is a domestic AC light switch these tend to be only rated at 6A and although common on boats in a lot of cases the lighting circuit will be fused heavier than that rating cheaper switches because of this either warm up or melt if a short fault develops before the fuse blows.

  8. Well spotted it should be OK now with most browsers. I had forgotten about that code being in there it was a left over from another problem.
  9. Most users will have found that the forums built in search facility is pretty dreadful to say the least, so I have put together a google based search page for you to use instead- Just click on the lighthouse to start your search, if you like it you can save the page to your favourites.
  10. Yes it is possible details here- http://www.britishmarine.co.uk/upload_pub/...ark_leaflet.pdf Unfortunately the scheme was another good idea that wasn't really taken up by boatbuilders and others in the industry which was a shame. Some level of protection can be had by using a good contract of sale.
  11. They are still produced but by a now independent company that was part Siemens VDO but it seems production is very limited and for specific customers rather than the general market.

  19. I bought a cheap one from Sterling and it was bloody awful and I assumed that they all were, I later borrowed a Fluke one and was very surprised how much better it was but it probably cost three times more. The are a very handy bit of kit the ebay ones do look a bit like the Sterling thing I had so it would be interesting to know if they are any better. I wouldn't mind getting another one, someone nicked my Sterling one so maybe they are having better results than I did! lol

  21. Your near but the last conversation I had indicated they were fed up with having to dispose of at a loss the results of defaulters. A really badly bodged or incomplete DIY project is often worth less than the initial advance.
  22. Often the first "easy" step is to reduce staff and costs, the really hard bit is how to decide when to call it quits! Like all things it is supply and demand at the moment there is little demand so builders have lots of decisions to make and probably reducing staff is a better thing than just carrying on blindfolded towards the inevitable. A lot of folk would be surprised how a lot of various businesses have gone bad very quickly over the last 18 or so months if they had seen the full picture, boatbuilding is only one of them but by it's nature of needing very little working capital or investment in the infrastructure involved to operate when boatbuilders go out of business it tends to be quick and often spectacular due to the relatively large value of the product and payment terms used to pay for it. So the bottom line is reducing staff is often necessary but doesn't necessarily mean the writing is definitely on the wall for a business.
  23. I did quite a bit of research into them for various customers and never really got a great deal of good feedback, it seemed that with effort they could be made to work but few of the users that I spoke too were likely to of with hindsight gone down the route again. We did very nearly get involved in importing one brand from Canada but the lack of positive feedback made me get cold feet on the deal.
  24. It doesn't make great deal of difference on a CE marked boat because the date on the HIN or CIN is taken to be the production date. On a DIY boat then maybe it could be a bit contentious if the owner had lived on it for a number of years before suddenly proclaiming it was complete and therefore new from that date?
