  1. I know, Dave, but short of closing and hiding what has been a really good thread it's the best I can do until I get some advice.
  2. Don't worry, it's not you, it's all the rest of us! I am currently in search of the file marked Wisdom of Solomon ... Anyone seen it? Mod hat off ... Pssst .... Go and have a chat with Dominic at Rugby Boats (really at Weedon). Good bloke.
  3. Mod's hat on ... I've been gently reminded that some, not all, of the content, mentions the broker's name. Whilst some of it is public record, some of it isn't, and I'm a little concerned about that, my own contributions included. So, whilst I don't want to upset any of you, or negate your experiences with the broker, whilst I take some advice, I've blanked out the name. Please don't mention them by name again until we get the go-ahead or not. It may be an over-reaction, maybe not, but until a wiser head than mine can be contacted, just bear with me. Thanks. Mod's hat off ...

  5. Mod hat on ... There's been some really interesting stuff in this thread, but making abusive or provocative posts about each other is a very good way to get the thread closed. Stick to the subject, refrain from making personal comments about others and be respectful, please. Thank you. Mod hat off ... Edited .... Mod hat on again ... I have done a significant amount of post hiding and editing, some because the content was unnecessary at best and some because it was insulting, and many because posters then quoted the problematic content. I tried to find a diplomatic solution to this but it ended up unworkable. I dislike doing this because it makes the result disjointed, however, it is as it is. Do not throw insults around or respond, just report them and we will deal with it. Being personally aggressive with each other brings us in into disrepute; I have no issue with honest and tough debate, just be considerate. Mod hat off ...
  6. I did it because I realised that was how PayPal established the link and it seemed eminently sensible to do it that way. As I'm paying, I don't want to see my money disappear into the Gaping Maws of the Vortex of Banking Hell and I assume the person being paid would prefer that too.
  7. I do this - transfer a £1 across, wait for the other person to confirm it's arrived, then transfer the rest. Saves anxiety.
  8. 0 = entirely sane, 10 = bat unmentionable, about an 9. You have anecdotal evidence that this isn't an unknown occurrence and you are standing to lose a considerable amount of money. Stiffen your resolve, take her away as a failed experiment and try again in a while. Personally, I wouldn't use a broker for such a small boat. Sell her via Apollo Duck; their eagerness to buy a boat they have described as 'uninsurable' and all the other tales, tells you there is a market for these boats. The brokers have a reputation amongst boaters that could be described as mixed for good reason. They offered £9k, upped it to £10k to 'help you out', it's a classic manoeuvre, and yes, you are being manipulated, so that they, not you, can make a profit. Reject this offer, the boat is yours to do with as you wish. Have you talked to Craig Allen yet? I think he would be interested to hear your story.
  9. And even then it will take some time if it's a spot of hull pitting.
  10. I've had indirect dealings with ******* on overplating and they have form. When my mate bought a Springer from them in the mid 90s, the hull was down to 3.9mm in places on survey. ******* carefully explained that that would make the boat uninsurable and they would therefore arrange to have it over-plated at buyer's cost, but there would be a price reduction to represent 50% of the cost. Somewhat new to all this, Rob agreed and was then presented with a bill for £9k, considerably more than the quoted £4K. When challenged, ******* claimed that the boat had been overplated with 6mm steel, hence the extra cost. In the course of the almighty row that developed I learnt two things. Get your own hull survey. Dont believe everything you're told by brokers. I'm sitting here looking at a survey for a steilsteven, it says that the steel is down to less than 4mm (and closer to 3mm in places). The new owner should consider the cost of cutting out affected panels and re-plating at some point in the next ten years. This boat is insurable to go to sea. Your boat is okay, take it away from ******* and sell it privately. I'd be happy to buy a Springer with a hull thickness of 3.7mm in places, it's a Springer, that's what they're like.
  11. You're welcome, and in shuffling off, I found me coat too ... Taxi for Ms Fingers! PS I like Dr Strangely Strange too ...
  12. I said, I said .. Right at the start ... Do I get to say "I told you so"? Okay, I'll just shuffle off then ....

  21. Hang on to your hats, there's two threads running on this one so I'm going to try to merge them ... Could be bumpy ... Sort of resolved ... Posts might be a bit disordered, but it is all interesting information, so as you were ...
  22. Here you go ... Transport! http://waterfordwhispersnews.com/2016/06/24/thousands-of-british-refugees-make-dangerous-journey-across-the-irish-sea/
  23. I think it may just be an unthinking phrase used. I wouldn't be unhappy if a message was passed on, but I'd be chary of giving exact location away. For what it's worth, I expect a canopy-maker to be great with canvas and a sewing machine but perhaps not have forensic lawyerly skills with a forum post. It might've been helpful if Mr Kinver had pm'd the mods first for help as this a business matter.
