    Gossip

It's great to be back. I was bought a year's subscription to Ancestry.Co.Uk and, having become addicted to Genealogy and discovering I was related to Henry Vth and Alvin & the Chipmonks, I've done my family tree as far as I can....and so have some spare time to have a nose around CANALWORLD... What's the gossip then...have I missed anything interesting. Has the 'Virtual Pub' become a 'Virtual Hairdressers' yet, and are people still complaining about hire boating cruising too fast when usually it's the private owners causing a nuisance. Let us know what's what? Fondest regards, Andrew (NB Nighthawk)
  3. Hi there, I'm happy with changing oil and air filters on my old Canal Star engine but I have to confess that I've not changed the fuel filter believing it to be very complicated...My uncle's always done it for me....but in return it's usually cost a slap up pub lunch...In an attempt to save a few quid, help my uncle loose weight and gain a little engine knowledge, I was wondering just how one goes about changing a fuel filter. It might seem daft, but is it as easy as unscrewing the old one, catching the spill in a bucket, and screwing the new one back on and cranking the engine until it fires OR does one have to drain the fuel system and do lots of other complicated things? Awaiting the esteemed knowledge of the forums engineers... Andrew

  5. Having to unblock the pump out toilet erm...manually!! A real 'James Herriot' moment!
  6. We tend to bleach our water system twice a year...we started off using Miltons but was advised that, provided you rinse your system thoroughly, inexpensive 'thin' bleach does pretty much the same thing...We're only holiday/weekend boaters and tend to drain the tank when we return from a trip and fill up before we leave. What was a worry was that traces of Legionnaires was found at my school last Autumn - quite a panic but what a clean the place had!

  9. Oh say hello to my mum...little purple boat....she'll probably suggest getting her uber heavy barge pole and smash away at the ice!! A x
  10. Grinning from ear to ear.....Been there, done that and have the scars to prove it! Here's to many more!! Andrew
  11. Alas, we're not taking the boat out this half-term...I'm conducting a run of 'Alf a sixpence' at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton and we've got all sorts of rehearsals over the coming week...At least the 'cheque' will pay for the boat to be blackened over the winter....
  12. You should have a go and make your own....the taste difference is astounding! I picked up an attachment for my Kenwood on eBay and, after soaking the sausage casings overnight in water, made some of the oddest shaped bangers you'd ever seen...I'm told it gets easier....Delicious! My most recent attempt was a pork n black pudding sausage....Tasted fabulous but did look a turd as it cooked! Also tried making a smoked fish sausage...padded out with a little lumpy mash and dill...OMG...heaven!!
  13. The safest place to be in a lightening storm is a large steel box aka. Faraday cage! A narrowboat or car is ideal! Not too sure if it's quite as safe being at the tiller during a lightening storm....as the pointiest object on the roof, wouldn't one get struck first?
  14. Two Irish ducks flying south for winter... One says, "Quack quack!" Other one says, "I'm flyin' as quack as I can!" (gets coat)

  16. Kinda gone off elderberries after discovering just how much cyanide they contain!
  17. I've collected over 25lb of damsons from the towpath around Wrenbury and made buckets of jam and chutney...all the more delicious 'cause the main ingredient'sf free!
  18. Hmmmm...but surely BW 'owns' the water that sits upon the winding hole...and we're only using the water....hmmmm
  19. I'd suggest emptying your locker completely leaving just the gas bottles firmly lashed securely...and once BSS has gone, fill it up again!
  20. We had one in our loft...by my old Hornby 00 train set......by late autumn it was completely dead....and a very interesting thing it was too when we opened it up....made of 'cardboard'

  22. Great to hear...and well done! We're always mooring with our stern sticking out...especially on the Shroppie....and at a 'jaunty' angle to the horizontal....all adds to the fun! And as for snotty nosed scrotes who think they know better.....they don't...they just know different that's all! My old mum's been cruising on her own for years....god help anyone that tells her what to do (apart from her grand children)
