  1. I can only say what I have found 2 years ago did the Leicester Ring = no problems (all terrestrial, but not digital this part of the country) last year up to Peak forest = no problems ( not too good in Bugsworth) This year Did the Coventry = no problems
  2. I have this type and to be honest it is excellent. Where are you? I am at Mercia (Willington) I get all the freeviews. Have you got the amp? does the co-ax need replacing. I don't think the "rod aerial makes any difference to TV reception. To summarise I have one and it is A1. Hope this helps Ivor.
  3. Hi All I am thinking the same but I have a 3 cyl Barrus Shire Does anyone know of any problems I might incur ( running NOT fitting) Thanks
  4. Hi There I have been waiting for this type of query to come up. I also have a victron inverter/charger model C12/1600/70, it has 3 led’s (on/off/charge only) When I leave the boat I set it to charge only to keep the battery's “topped up” (the boat is always connected to the shore line). Last year during the big freeze I put a low wattage heater in the boat and the inverter was left on charge only . When I came to use the boat a couple of months later I found the domestic battery switch had burnt out and had to be replaced. I was under the impression that if you are connected to shoreline, AC power would bypass the inverter and “go” through the 240v ring. It seems that if I need to use any 240v appliance I have to go through the inverter even when connected to the shoreline. We have had the boat for 3 years and I have always been suspicious of this inverter and have asked various people including victron with no solution. Can anyone out there tell me how we should be using it please. Thanks
  5. I was given a "tip" some time ago that a couple of weights (56lb coal bag type) could be used on the non bank side as anchors if you were in a yobbo area and a bit worried about having your ropes cut. Would this work?
  6. I fitted 2 of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200547996513&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:GB:1123 1 on each set of battery's They have done me o.k. for the last 12 months and they are not expensive.
  7. I am having problems at the moment with a "TIDEMARINE" type. I have ingress of water when in gear (forward and reverse). This is the second time I have had problems the first time was 3 years ago. I was told then that this type of gland does NOT like reverse I was very new to boating then and used reverse when grounded and stirred up allot of sand/muck. If anyone can throw any light on this type I would appreciate it Thanks. Ivor
  8. Hi There What make is your please Thanks

  11. So sorry for asking your location but I have a spare cannon and if you was local I would have let you have it for free. I could always post it but postage would cost more than you could get a good second-hand one. I am sure that you will get one try Ebay perhaps. Best of luck Ivor..........

  14. Hi All I hope to “black my bottom” (ooo errr missus!) in the next few weeks. What I want to know is What is the best covering to use I don`t mind paying for the best ( I am a believer in “pay cheap – pay twice”) If possible I would like it have a gloss not a bitumen black finish. The boat would be out of the water for 3 days. The boat is steel and has been blacked 1 year ago with a bitumen based covering and has a few “cruising scratches (nothing major). Thanks All
  15. Hi All Can anyone out there recommend a pair of boots for my resident lock worker (SWMBO). I recently purchased a pair of “HiTec” at £130, The guy who sold them said they were non-slip on wet wood/painted wood and all surfaces. They turned out to be VERY dangerous by having NO grip on wood and even slipping on the cobbles. The spec for the boots must be non-slip on all surfaces, lightweight and waterproof. Just for the record she slipped on the Stoke bottom lock (it was a close thing). Iv......
  16. Try telling my boss that
  17. Hello all We have finished cruising for this year and I was contemplating what to do over the cold winter period. I have the chance to black the boat in the next few weeks, should I paint and black before winter, or wait until spring.. your views please also, what other precautions should I take ie. should I fill the diesel tank to remove the "air" space and reduce the chance of condensation I will leave a heater (on frost guard) but other than that I am open to suggestions please Thank Iv..
  18. Help out there I have a Barrus 3cyl engine on my boat fitted with a "normal" silencer. I have seen on ebay a hospital silencer for sale but I have no idea what's involved in fitting one has anyone out there ever fitted one and is this a job that can be done by someone with limited knowledge. Please please sensible answers only I really would like to "quiten down the engine noise I rang one boatyard who quoted me £500 for soundproofing but I think the main noise is comming from the exhaust. Thanks

  21. Hi There Can anyone suggest a good gearbox mechanic near Shardlow. I developed a "leak" on the selector shaft late last year which I duly repaired with a new seal from PRM my engineering skills are limited and would really feel better if someone specialised in this field could give it the "once over" . We hope to be going along the T & M around mid March with another couple and the last thing I want is to spoil their holiday any contacts please. Thanks Ivor (N.B. Harmony)
  22. Hi Iam with T Mobile and the phone I use is the Omegia. The phone has web access and also a program called internet sharing which means I can plug my phone into my laptop and get internet access 24 hrs a day with NO limits for £5. 80 per month on a talk 200 package (ie 200 minutes and 200 texts). Up to now I have had very little problems with "no reception" but, I must admit it is slightly slower than my home p.c. My total bill each month is £24.47 this includes 24/7 internet cover and the talk 200 package. Hope this helps Ivor....
  23. Before I ask my question let me say I do NOT want to go faster. Recently I had a problem with the tickover it was too high and being a newbie, mooring was a problem (ask the bloke next to me). After a trip to the dealers (engine is under warranty) this was rectified and no the tickover is about 700rpm in gear, so far so good. It made me wonder why gearbox are not 2 speed ie. slow to fast and dead slow. It made me think of an old DAF that my farther had that worked with a centrifugal gear system the worked by the more revs the more the circumference therefore the faster the momentum. Please don't think I am one of those people that want to travel at ballistic speed If I wanted that I would have bought a boat for sea use not 20 ton of steel. On a last note PLEASE try to keep your comments simple and not too condescending this is a genuine question. Thanks
  24. THAT IS A GOOD IDEA!! perhaps you could get in touch with a manufacturer I am sure that would be a best seller.
