  1. Yes there is and this could be used no problem.
  2. Buy a "T" piece and put lamp sender in and gauge sender in the other and you have both (belt and bracers)
  3. East West use 2 types of wood Bamboo and Oak I am pretty sure that the wood on the floor, sides and ceiling is Oak not bamboo. The dinnette table and doors/drawers and most fittings are bamboo although is is very hard wearing I personally would not use it on the floor. Saw your link -- it looks really good
  4. YES I HAVE A CHINESE BOAT. I have been using it on a regular basis for 6 years and I must admit it let me down ONCE the gear change cable snapped. If it was possible to get a bigger one now ( they stopped trading/building 4ish years ago) I would buy another without hesitation.
  5. Thank you all so very much. 1 last point please. By placing the shunt in the battery cable does this have any effect on the charge or output of battery power ? and could I take the power to the ammeter (to work it not the shunt) from the accesory side of the key switch so that when I turn the ignition off the ammeter is turned off. Thanks again
  6. 3 1/2 Blue LCD Digital AMP Panel Meter AC 50A + ShuntThis is the link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390221397131?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Thanks Julynian for you help
  7. so very sorry but, I dont know how to (could be an age thing)
  8. Hi boaters Need a bit of help please. I have 2 alternators on my boat each with a charging (ignition) lamp to show "charging. I am in the process of fitting an updated control panel and I have seen some digital ampmeters on ebay able to handel the current output from each alternator. The gauges have 4 connections 1) battery +ve 2) battery - ve (that bit is easy) but 3 and 4 I have no idea. I presume 1 will go to the alternator and the other to the earth side. Anyone please know where etc. thank folks Ivor
  9. This type of engine has NO pre heats. On mine there is a facility to "warm " the engine by starting the heater (Espasher ?) and the hot water circulates around the engine thus "warming" it. Sorry for the crap spelling but I am on the move and trying to type at the same time. If you want a more indepth explanation leave a note and I will add more when I stop later.
  10. I am sorry to have caused this big discussion I dont want to "go all out" for using marine band and obtaining a licence after taking exams and all that stuff I just wanted to know if someone up the canal had any problems with kids throwing stones, a big fishing match or the lock was out of order. If I was a lorry driver and I needed help I could use band 19 ( I think that is the channel) to get help or warn other drivers of impending dangers. Sorry to have "opened" old wounds but it was a thought I had.
  11. Thanks for that Ally I have tuned into this when travelling up the Macc. but I was thinking of a system like the lorry drivers use. If I met an obstruction I could "call it in" to forewarn others behind me if you "see" my drift.
  12. Hi All I have been using an air scanner (bit sad I know but. it passes the time)and like listening to aircraft as well as some of the "public" bands as well as the ham radio guys. I have a narrowboat and was wondering is there a channel the Canal boats use (probably on a CB band) I dont mean the dedicated marine band for weather and sea going vessels I mean a band for narrowboats for instance if I was travelling the Trent and Mersey through Stoke etc I could "tune into ???? and see any problems stoppages etc." I have never heard of like this but someone out there might have. PLEASE only serious answers Thanks
  13. There are some "magnetic strips" in fridge doors ........... Might work ...........let us know
  14. I had a simler problem but, the other way around. Tickover was about 1000rpm and you can imagine trying to moor up on a pontoon next to another boat. because this was a new boat and me being a "newby" I did not know any better. I spoke to the local boatyard and the tickover was reduced to 750rpm. The result was the engine is not racing the gearchange does not "jerk" into gear and manoeuvrability is very precise. So in answer to your question I would advise getting your tickover taken down to 750 (in gear)
  15. First thing is check the tension on the belt and make sure the belt has a good grip on the pully's. I have fitted an oil pressure gauge and an oil temp gauge both these instruments are in my opinion are invaluable as they give you up to the minute engine info and can be fitted easily.
  16. Thank all for the answers It all seems clearer now.

    toilets

Where are you thinking of moving to ? Better to check out the marina ( the facilities etc. ) before commiting to a long term mooring fees.
  18. What does 500 cycles mean ? I am a weekend boater and connected to a shoreline so my batterys are in the "charge" position via the victron allways is this o.k. please thanks.

    toilets

I can only say It depends where you are. We are at Mercia and pump out is £14 but, there are 4 sets of toilets all around the marina so if you are a live aboard you would be better utilising these and save pumping out. Where are you?.
  20. saw this on ebay its cheap and cheerful. ----Wireless Intercom & Doorbell best on e-bay £14.99 why pay £20-30 for the same item---- I am putting one in the shed. Dont need anything for the boat I have an old (rubber bulb) car horn (that gets her attention) I have stopped pressing the main horn as shmbo nearly felloff the first time I tried did it.

    LPG jets

bummer!! but it made me laugh (sort of thing I would do) I would contact the manufacturer I am sure they would send a set possably free of charge. Sorry I cant help more and good luck.. Ivor..
  23. I bought the same type from Limekiln They told me it was a sealed beam lamp similar to the ones fitted to "older" cars like morris or MG I have never had to replace but I am sure I could find one at most auto electricians or good car spares shops. Failing that I am sure ebay could help. NOTE be sure to measure the glass there could be different sizes. Just had a thought try Limekiln Chandlers.
